The new HJC C70 is the entry-level model from the South Korean manufacturer. How does the full-face helmet perform in the practical test?

For 2019 has HJC the well-known and proven entry-level helmet IS-17 replaced by the i70. The South Korean manufacturer has put the even cheaper C70 at its side. In terms of features and functionality, the i70 and the C70 have a lot in common: polycarbonate outer shell, moisture-wicking lining, ventilation on the chin and top of the head, integrated sun visor, uncomplicated visor exchange, ratchet fastener and numerous decors – or in summary: both are solid, pretty and affordable all-rounders.

Lining ensures a comfortable fit

In practice, the specified size and actual fit of the C70 match well, entry is easy, the helmet fits snugly and without any pressure. Our tester particularly positively emphasizes the lining and its very pleasant wearing comfort. On the other hand, the ratchet lock, whose strap is too short, has been criticized.

The locking buckle sits close to the lining and presses on the jawbone. Since no Pinlock visor is included (preparation available), only opening the visor helps against fogging. However, the first locking position of the loud and somewhat stiff visor mechanism already opens an unnecessarily large gap. Thanks to the low price, the C70 is still a recommendation for novice and occasional drivers.

Conclusion

In the first test, the good fit was convincing. Another positive feature is the low entry price of 179.99 euros. It’s a shame that HJC has only given the new C70 a ratchet lock. Buyers also have to do without a Pinlock visor.
