The manufacturer Honda tried to build a 1000 multi-talent machine for the hammer price (8,000 euros) for the 2006 season and thought of (almost) everything: enough power (the modified engine from Honda’s Fireblade has around 100 hp), individually adaptable ergonomics , ABS (from 2006 to 2009 only optional for a surcharge), full pillion and travel suitability, good driving dynamics, moderate maintenance costs, acceptable weight (less than 250 kilos). Everything is great, everyone can get along well with it, and almost 5000 motorcyclists in Germany were convinced by the concept in the first model year (2006), second place in the charts, respect! Still a top bestseller in 2007 and 2008, although the machine remained the same except for color variants, because changing what is almost perfect would not have made much sense. Everything was actually done right, but in 2009 the sales figures suddenly plummeted. Also the new model presented in 2010 CBF 1000 F, basically nothing more than a delayed facelift, only sold in three digits. Although the “F” with a better adjustable windshield, aluminum instead of steel frame, sleek design and nine HP more (98 HP throttling possible) still went one better.

So did Honda score an own goal? Apparently the market is saturated with CBF 1000. Apart from a little more flair, the all-rounder leaves nothing to be desired. Reasonable buyers, the undisputed target group for this machine, will find their dream motorcycle extremely conveniently and cheaply in used ads. And are in the best possible position when it comes to price negotiations.

It’s almost like buying a car. You look for a trustworthy dealer, check the service booklet and general maintenance condition as well as tires and brakes, no one needs advanced technical knowledge – if the CBF works, it will continue to do it for longer. Rotten eggs with expensive follow-up costs are the exception in second-hand offers of this Honda. Nevertheless, take a test drive and check whether the fairing. noticeable rattles. Not uncommon for 2006 models that have not been treated with a special anti-vibration kit. There is also little to say about any extra accessories: cases, GPS mounts or heated grips are generally appreciated by interested parties, but the price increase is still limited. Retrofit silencers, front spoilers or other parts that change the appearance only play a minor role in the CBF 1000. The more conservative touring clientele appreciates that the motorcycle is in as original a condition as possible.

Market situation
Gift for used sellers: cheap new price. If only 8000 to 9000 euros are incurred for new or as good as new, more than 6000 euros hurts for machines that have already been used. The best maintenance condition and mileage below 10,000 kilometers do not tear anything out, dealers sit mercilessly on their offers, private providers, in a clear minority, have even fewer opportunities to sell. In the case of beautiful, technically perfect used vehicles with less than 20,000 kilometers, the equivalent value and therefore also the demand is high, on the other hand, and the chance of getting a decent and reliable machine for 4000 euros attracts bargain hunters. The few copies without ABS are difficult cases for sellers. Rarely on offer: the CBF 1000 F – still too young for the used market.

Facelift

2006 
Market launch of the CBF 1000 (type SC 58). Two-way adjustable windshield, three-way height-adjustable bench seat (three centimeters difference), adjustable handlebars. Power: 98 hp. Colors: blue, green, black, silver. Price: 7990 euros (ABS for an additional 700 euros).
