Fireblade lawnmower with 192 hp sets a new record

Honda implemented a similar project five years ago with the VTR 1000 F engine. At that time, the Japanese manufacturer created the fastest lawn mower in the world with the Honda Mean Mower MK. The MK made it into the Guinness Book of Records in 2014 with a top speed of 187 km / h. In 2015, the record was broken with a modified Viking T6, which is why Honda is now putting a new lawnmower rocket on the wheels. With the first Mean Mower MK, Honda decided to use the drive from the Honda VTR 1000 F for the motorization.
Honda Mean Mower MK2 manages 242.99 km / h
If you compare the two engines with each other, the prospects for a new record run should be relatively good. On paper, the new Fireblade motor impresses with significantly more power. For comparison, the key data of the two Hondas:
- Honda CBR 1000 RR Fireblade (MY 2017): four-cylinder in-line engine with 999 cm³, four valves per cylinder, 191.8 hp at 13,000 rpm, maximum torque 114 Nm
- Honda VTR 1000 F (MY 2004): two-cylinder V2 engine with 996 cm³, four valves per cylinder, 97.9 hp at 8,500 rpm, max. Torque 90 Nm
Thanks to various upgrades, Honda was able to increase the output of the VTR engine to around 109 hp on the first record. According to the manufacturer, the new Honda Mean Mower MK2 lawnmower should easily undercut the old record thanks to the Fireblade drive. Honda expects the MK2 to have a maximum speed of at least 240 km / h. The mower should be able to accelerate from zero to 98 km / h (60 mph) in under 3 seconds.
In June 2019, the time had come – the Mean Mower faced a record showdown at the Lausitzring. In several trips, the mower accelerated from zero to 160 km / h in an average of 6.29 seconds – Guinness world record. In addition, the top speed of the mower was also measured. Here the measuring devices showed a maximum value of 242.99 km / h at the end of the day. The video shows times for the 0-60 mph sprint (about 98 km / h) of just over three seconds. Incidentally, the Honda lawnmower was driven by Jessica Hawkins, who has made a name for herself in Great Britain through success in karting and as a stunt woman.
Mean Mower can mow too
Honda
With a special carbon cutting unit, the Mean Mower can even mow lawns.
The new Mean Mower was developed and built by Honda UK in close cooperation with the racing team that oversees the British Touring Car Championship for Honda. The Honda ride-on mower HF 2622 serves as the basis. However, only the engine cover and the grass catcher box are taken over from this. The prerequisite for the record mower to also pass as a mower is that it can also mow grass. For this purpose, the Mean Mower is equipped with a mower with carbon blades that are driven by electric motors.
The standard six-speed gearbox is shifted using paddles on the steering wheel. The cockpit was equipped with the display from the Fireblade. The unsprung tubular steel chassis carries ten-inch ATV wheels fitted with slicks from the kart sector.
The previous record was 214.96 km / h
The previous speed record for lawn mowers was set in November 2015. A Norwegian project group achieved the top speed of 214.96 km / h with a modified Viking T6. The project group that set the current record includes the companies Viking, Stihl Norden and the Norwegian Motorsport Association. The project was led by Marius Gjevik from the “Norwegian Speed Factory”.
