New Fireblade and revised bestsellers

In 2020, the signs are on sport: Honda brings a surprisingly sharply sharpened Fireblade. Otherwise you take care of the bestsellers, some of which we don’t really have on our radar in Germany.

Rene Correra

01/24/2020

As has often happened in the past, the previous Fireblade slowly but surely lost its connection in the highly competitive sports market. So it’s time for a bang. And here it is: 217 hp! In addition, a real technology festival that really offers everything that the sports market has on offer. The industrial giant can still do it if it wants to.

Strong and broad-based in the middle class

But Honda wouldn’t be Honda if they didn’t devote themselves to the other end of the displacement and prestige scale. For German eyes rather a marginal phenomenon, the extremely successful series of SH scooters in southern Europe has been refreshed. Exactly between these two ends, the mercilessly uncomplicated Rebel poaches high up in the sales charts.

So it is hardly surprising that a hand was laid on here too. Honda has traditionally been strong and broadly positioned as a young-conscious mass manufacturer in the middle class. The new model variant Rebel “S” makes the already wide range a little wider. And maybe even more attractive.

Honda Integra.

Of course, scooters are traditionally an integral part of the Honda model portfolio. In 2020, the manufacturer will also be offering a wide range of different scooter variants. The Honda SH 150i in particular can look forward to major updates for 2020. The model portfolio also includes the Honda Vision 110, the Honda Forza 125, the Honda PCX 125, the Honda SH 125i, the Honda SH 300i, the Honda Forza 300 and the Honda Integra.

The two retro models Honda Monkey 125 and Honda Super Cub C125 in particular have generated positive headlines and increased interest in the recent past. The two retro bikes will also be part of the Japanese manufacturer’s model range in 2020. In addition, A1 license holders can also use the Honda CB 125 F, Honda CB 125 R and Honda MSX 125 models.

Honda CRF 250 L / Rally

Honda

Honda CRF 250 Rally.

Anyone who would like to enjoy a leisurely enduro hike, actually toying with a small trial machine, but doesn’t want to lose sight of its suitability for everyday use, often ends up with Honda’s small enduro. Above all, the combination of a comparatively large tank and comparatively low consumption allows you to look calmly at one or the other connection stage. Even looking into your wallet does not cause excessive stress, the CRF 250 L is a real price hit in the sparsely populated segment. The longer the routes for the small enduro rider, the more the “Rally” version of the CRF 250 series comes into focus. This means that the “journey” is written much larger without the “enduro” losing its meaning.

Honda CB 300 R.

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda CB 300 R..

The word “model family” is currently hardly ever taken more seriously than with Honda’s naked bikes. Numerous machines from 125 to 1,000 cubic meters correspond to the new, rather solid design “Neo Sports Cafe”. The inner values are also convincing. The feather-light 300 is handy, fits almost everyone like a glove and offers a terrific price-performance ratio. With a little more hardness in the chassis and a little more softness in the saddle, the little Honda would be the perfect city flea.

Honda CRF 450 L.

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda CRF 450 L.

For a 450cc enduro, 25 hp doesn’t seem too generous. Especially when the 250 version is already doing the same thing. But as you know, the bill comes at the end – or in this case in the field. And there the 450 is much more dynamic, thanks to less weight and more torque. The sensitive chassis is also completely convincing here. Overall, the package that the gently tapped single puts together is adequate and, above all, beginner-friendly. In complete contrast to the bold price tag.

Honda CBR 500 R.

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda CBR 500 R..

There is probably no cheaper way to get full-blown overtaking prestige. The half-liter Honda can only be distinguished from the professional athlete Fireblade in the rearview mirror with an eagle eye. It could be difficult just to overtake. Anyway, these 48 hp are very lively and, as is typical of the brand, easy to care for. Even 192 kilograms seem a bit unsporting at first, nonetheless the CBR turns extremely nimble around the corner. Otherwise a lot of Hondaness: comfortable ergonomics, fluffy gear and clean design

Honda CB 500 F.

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda CB 500 F..

Somehow the question arises. Honda worked with great ambition to massage its new “Neo Sports Cafe” naked bike design line into our heads, and yet there is one exception. The undisguised 500 still throws itself in an angular design. This is due to the youth’s desire for aggressive styling, says Honda. Why is that not the case with the even smaller displacement variants with certainly an even younger target group? We ask. Be that as it may, this has no effect on the qualities of the Midi-Honda. This 500 iteration also offers a coherent, highly functional and, despite its impressive weight, surprisingly agile package. The engine pushes, the gearbox slips and the ergonomics are pleasing: typically Honda. Just like the somewhat anemic character. Perhaps the new design language would have helped a little, because it takes imagination to recognize the much-cited street fighter in yesterday’s sheet metal dress. In contrast to their qualities. All you need is a sober look.

Honda CB 500 X

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda CB 500 X

Long-term success is often based on evolution rather than revolution. And with this in mind, the current 500cc class has been revised at Honda since its appearance in 2013 only cautiously, but regularly. The Kraxl variant was recently given the most profound changes. With a 19-inch front wheel, more suspension travel (ten millimeters at the front, 17 millimeters at the rear) and new ergonomics, the “X” has received a decent infusion of travel enduro. The effect is not only cosmetic: in fact, the Bonsai-fast travel enduro can plow it over moderate sticks and stones without fear and effort. If you want to. And is not much larger than 1.80 meters, because then the handlebars are positioned a little too low for standing driving. Most of them, however, are more likely to be happy about typical SUV side effects such as easier handling, better overview and better control in asphalt life. No other CB 500 version is better at driving fast and effortlessly.

Honda CMX 500 Rebel / S

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda

Honda CMX 500 Rebel.

The Honda Rebel did more than well in terms of registration numbers last year. The reasons for its success may not be sexy, but obvious: With a seat height of barely 70 centimeters, an engine that is even more drivable, and a comparatively low price, it makes an excellent offer for newbies and small grown-ups. No wonder that driving schools love the little Honda. And no wonder that hands have now been laid for 2020. The chassis and pillion seat have been adjusted to be more comfortable, plus there is a new headlight design, LED technology on the indicators and rear, and a gear indicator in the cockpit. It goes without saying that the drive now complies with the Euro 5 standard and, thanks to the anti-hopping clutch, now also forgives overly rough shift commands. Also new is the Rebel “S” with lamp cover, bellows and a newly designed seat.

Honda CB 650 R.

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda CB 650 R..

Even if you don’t look at it at first glance, the second-strongest naked bike of the Japanese is conceptually pretty old-school. Because a small row quad with high speeds has long since been hanging in the chassis. 95 hp at 12,000 revs leave no doubt as to what to expect. The uninhibited pleasure in turning is both a condition and a promise of the CB 650 R. Once you have overcome the mid-range speed, a sensitive and powerful spectacle opens up that seemed long since forgotten. And at the latest when you look at the prominently staged manifold fan you ask yourself why. The naked motorcycle is also convincing in all other respects, serving typical Honda qualities in generous proportions: drives stable, but still handy, brakes powerfully but controllably, makes a committed but comfortable bed. The CB 650 R simply hits the right center. The price is quite sporty, but still reasonable in view of the really very fine design.

Honda CBR 650 R.

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda CBR 650 R..

600cc super athlete: a case for the history books with the exception of Yamaha’s R6. The current CBR 650 R does not fill this gap, but moves slowly and steadily towards it. The Fireblade always looks a bit more similar, always pushes a few more horses and bedding its pilots a little more sporty. Nevertheless, at the end of the day it is a sporty everyday motorcycle, not the other way around. And is much more likely to follow in the footsteps of the blessed CBR 600 F. Not the worst role model.

Honda NC 750 S / DCT

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda NC 750 S..

You can think what you want of them, but the scooter is a practical mobility concept. Anyone who still does not want to do without the look and image of a “real machine” often ends up with Honda’s NC series. Because the twin, which lies very flat, creates space for something unique in the motorcycle world: a helmet compartment. The optional dual clutch transmission also saves you the “burden” of shifting. Just like all too frequent visits to gas stations: The 750 is extremely ascetic when it is thirsty.

Honda NC 750 X / DCT

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda NC 750 X.

SUVs are booming. And what a sport utility vehicle is to a motorist, is a travel enduro to a motorcycle enthusiast. The fact that it is usually not about real, but rather felt off-road qualities, does not detract from the success. 30 millimeters more suspension travel here, a large windshield and a more expansive cladding do not make the NC an off-road specialist, but noticeably increase driving comfort and weather protection. And that’s what the NC clientele values, who feel more at home on the daily commute than in the outback. So it is hardly surprising that the “X” is clearly the top-selling NC 750 in this country. Otherwise, the coarse version of the NC brings together all the familiar qualities of the series: easy handling, plenty of storage space, high-torque power delivery and sensationally low consumption. If you want to be even more comfortable in everyday life, you can order the DCT dual clutch transmission for an extra 1,000 euros and have the task of shifting relieved from now on.

Honda X-ADV

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda X-ADV.

With the NC platform, Honda is driving a wild mix of genres. The X-ADV now wants to pair a travel enduro with a scooter. More suspension travel, upside-down fork, spoked wheels, double disc at the front, specially matched dual clutch transmission and the new look are the ingredients, but an off-road scooter is not the result. Instead, there is a comfortable, snappy premium scooter. Thanks to the 15-inch rear wheel, there is also a storage compartment again, and thus perhaps more interesting for the core clientele.

Honda VFR 800 F.

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda VFR 800 F..

VFR – one of the big names in the Honda portfolio. For a long time it stood for sporty travel, but time and market events have overtaken the venerable bike a little, some say even overtaken it. The main point of criticism is the 800 V4: just over 100 hp, just under 80 Newton meters and, thanks to V-Tec, a very inharmonious, speed-hungry power development. Together with 243 kilograms far from sovereignty. Unaffected by this, the chassis, ergonomics and workmanship are still excellent.

Honda VFR 800 X Crossrunner

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda VFR 800 X Crossrunner.

And again an example for the secondary use of well-known platforms. Longer suspension travel, much more comfortable coordination and upright ergonomics make the VFR a soft travel enduro, where the “enduro” can be confidently understood as written in very small letters. In fact, these measures change the character significantly: away from sport and towards comfort. Only the anemic, speed-hungry engine remained untouched, which doesn’t quite fit the concept.

Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade / SP

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda

Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade / SP.

A grand entrance, that is traditionally not Honda’s domain. And that’s why the extent of the further development is hardly apparent if you only look at the shell, which has not changed too much. But there was practically magic under the sheet metal. No less than the outrageously expensive Moto GP replica RC213V-S from 2015 was primarily a model for the engine. A tiny extract of features: stroke and bore are identical and therefore extremely short-stroke, fixed-speed rocker arms, titanium connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, DLC-coated cams and connecting rod feet, completely new, patented valve train (“semi-cam”) and much more. The full range is now also available electronically; all digital paths run via six-axis sensors from Bosch. In addition, a completely new, significantly stiffer frame and tightened ergonomics. The thrust of this technology offensive is clear: fame on the track, nothing else. Again there will be an SP version (minus 1 kg) with a semi-active Ohlins chassis (instead of Showa) and Brembo monoblocs (instead of Nissin).

Honda CRF 1100 L Africa Twin / Adventure Sports

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda

Honda CRF 1100 L Africa Twin / Adventure Sports.

The Africa Twin is currently THE bestseller at Honda. The travel enduro has been brought to men and women almost 90,000 times in its still short life. And of course the best horses in the stable are given the best care. In addition to all the technical bohei, the plan was to sharpen the profile of the two versions. From now on, the basic version is the more terrain-related contribution, while the Adventure Sports serves touring fans. Both lost a good five kilos, the Adventure Sports felt a lot more thanks to their much more compact dimensions and identical spring travel. There’s also more to the lean angle-sensitive electronics and the 86 cc larger engine. The 7 hp more is most likely to be noticed in the basic variant with manual transmission, the optional DCT transmission (plus 10 kg and 1,100 euros) for the already heavier Adventure Sports (plus 12 kg and 1,800 euros) make the extra power difficult to feel. A highlight is the superbly functioning e-chassis (1,600 euros), which is hardly inferior to the conventional counterpart.

Honda CB 1000 R / R+

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda

Honda CB 1000 R..

The fans waited a long time for the new CB 1000 R, only to be surprised by the majority. In contrast to the predecessor, the specification sheet did not include sportiness, but rather solidity. They locate the rather calm, neoclassical design and the cultivated, comfortable character in the R nineT and Co. rather than in heavy octane caliber à la Tuono or Super Duke. Despite less weight, shorter gear ratio and more power, the engine hardly seems stronger, but more inharmonious than its predecessor.

Honda CB 1100 EX

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda CB 1100 EX.

Anyone who likes the classic Honda nimbus of almost lavishly good design should take a closer look at Honda’s retro big bike. Paint application, chrome, material quality: here we still draw from the full. Perhaps that’s why the hum weighs almost 260 kilograms, which the gentle, air-cooled 1100 Four struggles with. Incidentally, with the elimination of the Yamaha XJR 1300, it was the last of its kind. A thoroughly beautiful motorcycle for enjoyable deceleration instead of rushing to speed.

Honda CB 1100 RS

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda CB 1100 RS.

If the specification sheet for the next motorcycle purchase should include the word “sport” alongside the word “classic”, then the CB 1100 RS is, to be honest, not the right choice. Too inharmonious the wobbly and stubborn chassis, too tame the engine, too weak the brakes. And then the many pounds. No, this is about sport as an aesthetic, not a dynamic concept. And Honda’s retro boom cuts a really good figure. Swing confidently, that’s fine. Just like celebrating the classic Honda value.

Honda VFR 1200 X Crosstourer / DCT

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda VFR 1200 X Crosstourer.

A touring enduro-like motorcycle with a thick V4: As long as the announced Ducati Multistrada V4 is still a long time coming, this combination is only available from Honda. However, Ducati dynamism cannot be expected here. The high-tech engine from the blessed VFR 1200 has been significantly reduced in power, but has to push almost 280 kilograms, with DCT even 290. The stable, rather than manageable chassis goes well with this. An update with less weight and more power and features would now be appropriate.

Honda GL 1800 Gold Wing / Tour

Honda in model year 2020 (all models and prices)

Honda.

Honda GL 1800 Gold Wing.

It is hard to imagine that there is more going in the touring segment than with Honda’s Goldflugel: keyless entry, navigation system, traction control, various driving modes, optional dual clutch transmission, heated grips, heated seats, much more and one of the most sophisticated drives ever to be found in a two-wheeler. Gold Wing means absolutely fully comprehensive as far as the equipment is concerned. And driving comfort. It is an experience to see the buzzing hum hover over all surfaces, while the dancing tie rod ends of the complex chassis technology are a witness to the constant work of damping. Nonetheless, Honda is stepping up slightly for 2020. The engine and the “DCT” dual clutch transmission have been optimized for even smoother interaction. The latter is now available as an option (plus 1,100 euros) for the standard gold wing. The full dresser version (“Tour”) now comes with a revised chassis, improved passenger grab handles and standard fog lights. News also on the digital front: updated maps for the navigation system and a second USB socket.
