Hyosung GT 650iR review
Spritz Tourer
In the last test in MOTORRAD 21/2005, the Hyosung GT 650 praise for its engine and the good price-performance ratio, but there were criticisms of a number of details ?? from the blunt brakes to the chassis tuning to manual clutch force. The Koreans didn’t sleep, they did fine work. Your current top model GT 650iR also has injection and nominally more power. Of the stated 82 HP, however, only 71 HP remain on the test bench, i.e. even two HP less than the carburettor version. After all, the GT manages 219 km / h when the driver folds behind the short window. The thing with the folds sounds worse than it is, because the ergonomics of the Hyosung also allow long people to stay for several hours. It was extremely positive that effective wind protection is not bought at the price of noisy turbulence. Longer motorway stretches are quite possible with the GT 650iR, the consumption remains under six liters.
The real area of this 650er is the country road. There the Hyosung impresses with precise, if not playfully easy handling and comfortable suspension setup. There is joy in swinging bends, there is nothing wrong with the driving precision. The double disc in the front wheel does a good job, even if sporty riders want a more noticeable pressure point. The single disc in the rear wheel could grip more forcefully.
The six courses want to be sorted with a little emphasis. The injector delivers its power evenly, but in the upper third of the engine speed is a bit tougher than its agile carburetor predecessor. The tuning in the partial load range was not really successful: Here the test machine was annoying with a hard, jerky throttle response. The importer has already complained about the problem that new software should solve it. In addition, the turning circle should be a bit smaller. Apart from that, the GT shows itself to be a successful touring athlete. The workmanship is good, the price attractive: the GT 650iR costs a modest 6195 euros. If you can do without the fairing, you can even get the same engine for a mere 4995 euros in the GT 650i Naked SE. There is nowhere more motorcycle for the money in this class.
