Training and racing results of the IDM Supersport 300 on the Schleizer Dreieck

1st free practice (July 28, 8 a.m.)

Big differences marked the start on Friday, the 1st free practice of the IDM-Supersport 300 on the Schleizer Dreieck. Tim Georgi (Yamaha) achieved the fastest lap with 1: 48.862, Jan-Ole Jahnig (also Yamaha) leads the timesheet with a gap of more than 5 seconds on rank 2.

The only (and therefore fastest) Kawasaki in the 9-motorcycles field was driven by Philippe Cavegn. His fastest lap was 1: 58.689 minutes, which made him the fourth fastest 300 driver.

2nd free practice (July 28, 11:45 a.m.)

In the second free practice session, the IDM-Supersport 300 field moved much closer together. With 1: 33.447 min Jan-Ole Jahnig took on the role of the fastest in training, closely followed by Tim Georgi (1: 44.616 min). In third place on the timesheet is Maximilian Kappler, who with 1: 46.670 already keeps a little respectable distance.

Kawasaki driver Philippe Cavegn improved by almost 5 seconds compared to the first practice session, but was unable to maintain his fourth place. He is now in seventh place.

1st timed practice (July 29, 9:05 a.m.)

In the first qualifying of the IDM-Supersport 300, two thirds of the field managed to undercut the 1:50 mark. More than half of them even cracked 1:45 min.

At the end of the day, Jan-Ole Jahnig (Yamaha) was right at the front, with a 1: 42.339 just before the end of the session. Tim Georgi (Yamaha) was not even a tenth of a second slower, with a time of 1: 42.436 minutes he is second on the timesheet. Just under a second behind, Maximilian Kappler (Yamaha) was able to line up with 1: 43.274 min.

Philippe Cavegn, the only Kawasaki rider in the field, improved further to 1: 52.002 min and thus leads the rear third of the field.

2nd timed practice (July 29, 1:15 p.m.)

In the 2nd timed practice of the IDM-Supersport 300 it took a little while until the drivers were able to match their times from the 1st timed practice.

Maggy Spahn (Yamaha) was the first to improve on QP1 by almost two and a half seconds to 1: 53.746 min – and that in her only timed lap.

Troy Bude (Yamaha) drove on lap 4 exactly a thousandth of a second faster than his best time in the first qualifying.
Guest starter Luise Reissig (Yamaha) also improved noticeably. If the 2-minute threshold on the Schleizer Dreieck was previously insurmountable for her, she is now in 9th place on the timesheet with a 1: 58.540.

The top duo of Jan-Ole Jahnig and Tim Georgi put in clean 1:42 laps, but remained behind their respective best times from QP1. Behind them Maximilian Kappler (Yamaha) moved a little closer with 1: 43.004, followed by Troy Bude, who was able to push past Lukas Franke with a 1: 43.634 lap.

Sophia Liebschner (Yamaha) was able to keep the Kawasaki driver in the field, Philipp Cavegn, in check. He couldn’t undercut her 1: 49.685 from QP1 – but neither did she.

The starting grid for the IDM-Supersport 300 races in Schleiz 2017 looks like this:

  1. Jan-Ole Jahnig, Yamaha
  2. Tim Georgi, Yamaha
  3. Maximilian Kappler, Yamaha
  4. Troy Bude, Yamaha
  5. Lukas Franke, Yamaha
  6. Sophia Liebschner, Yamaha
  7. Phillip Cavegn, Kawasaki
  8. Maggy Spahn, Yamaha
  9. Luisa Reissig, Yamaha

1st race (30.7., 9.35 a.m., 12 laps)

Troy Bude wins the SPP 300 race after the race was stopped

When Jan-Ole Janig and Maximilian Kappler fell in the eighth of twelve scheduled laps and the subsequent termination of the race, Troy Bude from Pobneck won his first victory in the SSP 300 class.

At the start and in the first bend, the 9 drivers of the SSP 300 class got into position without any problems. Maximilian Kappler couldn’t keep up with the pace at the beginning, but then joined the front runners on the second lap. From the second lap a leading group of four drivers formed, consisting of Tim Georgi, Maximilian Kappler, Jan-Ole Jahnig and Troy Bude. The gap within this group was just 0.5 seconds.

In the fifth lap, Troy Bude crossed the finish line as the leader for the first time, followed by Maximilian Kappler and Jan-Ole Jahnig, who in turn had Maximilian Kappler in tow.

Luise Reibig from Schleiz had to go down this lap, but got away with no injury. In the eighth lap then came the route section “Scorching” the two rivals Janig and Kappler too close and their crash caused the race to be abandoned.

Troy Bude profited from this fall, who crossed the finish line in the leading position on the lap before the race was stopped and was classified as the winner. Max Kappler and Jan-Ole Janig were rated on the following places. An award ceremony did not take place because Janig and Kappler were in the Medical Center for a medical check.

Because the race was stopped after more than half the race distance, but less than 75 percent ago, half of the usual number of points was distributed for the overall standings.

2nd race (30.7., 1.40 p.m., 12 laps)

Tim Georgi wins an exciting three-way battle

In the first race of the Supersport 300 class he went down, Tim Georgi (Yamaha) won the second in an exciting three-way battle. Troy Bude (Yamaha), the winner of the morning, crossed the finish line in second place. He beat Jan-Ole Jahnig (Yamaha) with a margin of 0.007 seconds.

As in the first race in the morning, the start and the first lap went without any problems. This time it was one less driver with eight starters, as Maximilian Kappler was unable to take part in the race because of his fall in the morning. The Saxon has to stay one night in the hospital for observation.

In the second lap a very close race became apparent at the front. Tim Georgi crossed the finish line closely followed by Yamaha rider Lukas Franke on lap two. Sophia Liebschner (Yamaha) and the only Kawasaki rider Phillip Cavegn took the other places, followed by Luisa Reissig, who fell in the first run, and Maggie Spahn (both Yamaha).

In the seventh lap, Troy Bude took the lead for the first time, closely followed by Tim Georgi and Jan-Ole Jahnig. Lukas Franke couldn’t keep up with the pace and had to let go. Sophia Liebschner and Phillip Cavegn fought for fifth place again with a bit of a gap. Maggie Spahn and Luisa Reibig were on their way with another gap.

Tim Georgi won the race. He was able to pull away from his opponents on the last lap, before they crossed the finish line wheel to wheel with a gap of just 0.007 seconds – Troy Bude just ahead of Jan-Ole Jahnig. Lukas Franke took fourth place, clearly ahead of Sophia Liebschner and Phillip Cavegn, who were again separated by 0.006 seconds.

Maggie Spahn prevailed against Luisa Reissig at the end of the field.

The fastest lap of the race went to the winner of the first run, Troy Bude.
