Championship stand of the IDM Supersport 600

Training and racing results of the IDM Supersport 600 on the Schleizer Dreieck

1st free practice (July 28th, 8.30 a.m.)

In the 1st free practice of the IDM-Supersport 600 in Schleiz, only Marc Buchner with 1: 39.514 min and Kevin Wahr (1.39: 938) remained below the 1:40 limit. Max Enderlein leads the field of pursuers with 1: 42.338 min.

Only Yamahas were represented on the track early on Friday morning; the Kawaski pilots don’t want to intervene until later.

2nd free practice (July 28, 12.15 p.m.)

In the second free practice session, the basic speed was significantly higher right from the start: Marc Buchner (Yamaha), Jonas Geitner (Kawasaki), championship leader Thomas Gradinger (Yamaha) and Rafael Neuner (Kawasaki) and Kevin Wahr (Yamaha; in the overall standings tied behind Gradinger) set 1:31 times early.

True had to say goodbye early on with a technical defect from the ever faster field; I let his fastest training lap (1: 31.701) slip back to seventh place.

Max Enderlein (Yamaha) worked his way to the top of the timesheet, as the only rider to break the 90-second barrier with 1: 29.901 min. Gradinger, Geitner, Neuner and Buchner followed with 1:30 times. Guest starter Thomas Walther (Yamaha) from MSC Schleizer Dreieck closed the gap to True with a 1: 31.103 lap.

3rd free practice (July 28, 4.10 p.m.)

Would the 1:30 mark in the 3rd free practice session of the IDM Supersport 600 on the Schleizer Dreieck fall again? Maybe even several times? And would Kevin Wahr, who couldn’t really attack in 2nd free practice, go for it now?

To make it short: three times yes. Four drivers cracked the 1:30 mark. Namely the Yamaha trio Max Enderlein (1: 29.512), Kevin Wahr (, 559) and Thomas Gradinger (, 720) as well as Jonas Geitner (, 884), who carried the Kawasaki flag furthest forward.

Marc Buchner and Thomas Walther, both again on a Yamaha, stayed in the seconds window behind Enderlein, who was fastest in training. Daniel Rubin (Yamaha) and Rafael Neuner (Kawasaki) also made the list with 1:30 times.

1st timed practice (July 29th, 8:00 a.m.)

In the 1st qualifying of the IDM-Supersport 600 on Saturday morning, Yamaha rider Thomas Gradinger took the lead in his 7th lap with 1: 28.376 minutes.

Shortly before the end of the session, Max Enderlein (Yamaha) and Jonas Geitner (Kawasaki) lined up behind them with 1: 28.429 and 1: 29.208.

Kevin Wahr (Yamaha) managed the trick of not being able to improve his first timed lap. With 1: 29.410 he is currently fourth ahead of his brand colleague Marc Buchner.

The fourth in the current championship standings, Vasco van der Valk (Yamaha), only managed a 1: 30.884, which lets him lurk in 11th place in the back half of the field before the second timed practice.

2nd timed practice (July 29, 11.05 a.m.)

Most of the drivers of the IDM-Supersport 600 were able to improve their lap times in the second qualifying. Kevin Wahr (Yamaha) benefited the most; he moved up to third place on the grid with a gain of 87 hundredths compared to Q1. Pole position belongs to Thomas Gradinger, who was able to create a significant gap of 1: 27.716 minutes to Max Enderlein (Yamaha, 1: 28.153).

The ranks behind are the Kawasaki drivers Jonas Geitner (1: 28.980), Rafael Neuner (who was one of the few top drivers who could not improve the time from Q1 with 1: 29.233) and Janusch Prokop (1: 29.415).

The starting grid of the IDM-Supersport 600 on the Schleizer Dreieck looks like this:

  1. Thomas Gradinger, Yamaha

1st race (July 29, 4:00 p.m., 16 laps)

Gradinger at an advantage

Thomas Gradinger and Kevin Wahr traveled to Schleiz with the same number of points. One of them would have more than the other after the first race. The question of who it would be was quickly settled after a detour from True.

It first started with a show by three drivers. In the lead was Thomas Gradinger (Yamaha) ahead of Max Enderlein (Yamaha) and Kevin Wahr (Yamaha). Jonas Geitner, who started from fourth place on the Kawasaki ZX-6R, fell on the first lap in the chicane in front of the start and finish. It was also a very personal drama: after technical bad luck at the start of the season, the Bavarian wanted to keep fit with a supermoto, but fell and broke his lower leg. That is why Geitner had to skip the IDM event at the Nurburgring. And now there were no points again. The podium hope of the Kawasaki Schnock Team Motorex is still pushing a clear round.

Shortly after Geitner, Kevin Wahr was absent. The Nagolder did appear, but only in 13th position. What happened? “The corridor didn’t go in the direction of the city. I had to go into the gravel trap. ”True, there was nothing left but to start a race to catch up. On lap eleven was back on the third podium. Thomas Gradinger was the superior winner of the race ahead of Max Enderlein. Both have applied for a wildcard for the Supersport World Championship run at the Lausitzring as part of the Superbike World Championship from August 18 to 20, 2017. Gradinger then rides a new Yamaha like his colleagues, now he still had the last model, which was getting on in years.

Local hero and ex-IDM player Thomas Walther from MSC Schleizer Dreieck, who competed as a guest, finished fifth on his Yamaha.

2nd race (July 30, 2:20 p.m., 16 laps)

Gradinger has everything under control

For Thomas Gradinger (Yamaha) the world is fine. He also won the second Supersport 600 run in Schleiz and has thus created a small cushion of points as the leader in the championship standings.

Kevin Wahr (Yamaha) got the most out of the bike, but his loss to Gradinger was foreseeable. “I’ve known that since Zolder. We are the only top team that drives Dunlop tires. All in all, we can’t get out of the corners so well on the two tracks.”

Max Enderlein (Yamaha) had pushed True from second place in the last corner. “I struggled at the beginning, and it wasn’t until the middle of the race that I was able to relax and follow Kevin. It is stupid that Thomas Gradinger drove away, he was then no longer within reach.”

While Enderlein already has a confirmation for the Supersport World Championship wildcard at the Lausitzring in August, the Austrian gradinger has to wait for the document.

Jonas Geitner (Kawasaki) scored his first points this year in fourth place.

Result of the 2nd race of the IDM-Supersport 600 in Schleiz:
