Suzuki Cups started successfully
Suzuki GSX-R Cup and Suzuki SV650 Cup
As part of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) at the Nurburgring, the Suzuki GSX-R Cup and the Suzuki SV650 Cup started the new season.
May 18, 2017
The two Suzuki Brand Cups have been very popular for a number of years and started the 2017 season at the Nurburgring from May 12th to 14th with a total of 46 starters. While the Suzuki SV650 Cup is primarily aimed at young drivers and racing beginners Suzuki GSX-R Cup naturally a bit harder to deal with. But without ever losing sight of the idea of fair play.
“With our two Suzuki Cups, we offer racing for everyone. Both beginners and ambitious hobby racers are very welcome here, ”explains Roger Plath, one of the two organizers. “Of course we pull the cable properly, but it is very important to us that the drivers show consideration for each other despite their ambition. After all, everyone has to go back to work on Monday. “

Leading group in the Suzuki SV650 Cup race on Saturday: # 7 Robert Conrads, # 44 Justus Weinke, # 21 Carsten Stork, # 6 Marcus Andruchiewicz, # 63 Kai-Uwe Lenz, # 27 Ole Bismark.
A concept that also paid off at the opening event and contributed to the fact that there were no injuries despite partly rainy weather and some unavoidable racing accidents. Of course, this did not affect the racing action on the track. The drivers of the SV650 Cup, which is held as part of the Twin 700 Cup, delighted the audience with their first race on Saturday afternoon.
First, a group of three with Robert Conrads, Justus Weinke and Marcus Andruchiewicz set the pace at the top. After Conrads and Andruchiewicz had said goodbye by falling, last year’s winner Pascal Lenz and his uncle Kai-Uwe Lenz moved into the top group and put pressure on the leader. While Weinke was able to keep the fast Kai-Uwe Lenz behind, he had to admit defeat to the current champion Pascal Lenz shortly before the end of the race.
Lenz was also the man who could set the tone on Sunday morning. The 20-year-old also prevailed in the second race of the SV650 Cup and relegated Carsten Stork and Justus Weinke to their places.

Christof Hofer won the second race with his Suzuki GSX-R 1000.
In the GSX-R Cup, the field presented itself even more balanced and so there were two different winners with Martin Mattivi and Christof Hofer at the opening event. In the first race, the drivers had to contend with a wet track and a racing line that dried up quickly. The choice of tires could definitely be decisive for the race. Martin Mattivi did everything right under these conditions. The Austrian won by 4.240 seconds and relegated Georg Einzmann and Dominik Jung to their places.
The second round on Sunday afternoon, on the other hand, was held in dry conditions and offered all pilots uniformly good conditions. This time it was pole setter Hofer who took the lead early and won the race by over 20 seconds. The winner of race one, Martin Mattivi, initially stayed with Hofer, but said goodbye prematurely with a fall, clearing the way for Michel Eigenmann and Georg Einzmann on the podium. “
“Even if the weather didn’t play along one hundred percent – we were able to celebrate a great start to the season at the Nurburgring,” said Roger Plath on Sunday evening. “A great atmosphere in the paddock, lots of enthusiastic spectators, exciting races and no major accidents – that’s how things can go on at the next events!”
