Air-conditioned seats in cars are now widespread, but an air-conditioned seat for motorcycles sounds exotic. Indian now has one in its program.

The Americans call their new optional bench seat ClimaCommand, which is supposed to supply the rear of the passengers with heat or cold when required. Seat heating is not a new feature, but seat cooling is.

Indian uses thermoelectric modules in combination with graphene for the ClimaCommand bench. Depending on the controls, they should either add energy – i.e. heat – to the seat, or withdraw it (cool). In order to achieve heating and cooling, a thermoelectric module located in the seat regulates the temperature directly. Electricity is conducted to the graphene material through a thermoelectric module, causing one side of the material to absorb heat and the opposite side to dissipate heat. By reversing the electrical flow, the hot and cold sides of the temperature alternate. The graphene material, a nanomaterial that consists of 100% carbon, causes the heating and cooling to be distributed over the entire seat.

The ClimaCommand seat is offered as an option for the Thunderstroke models built between 2016 and 2020 and is initially only available in the USA, but is also expected to come to Europe. It is not intended to be integrated into the on-board ride command system, which is controlled via the infotainment system. The three-stage control for the driver and front passenger is carried out via a separate switch for the driver and front passenger. The bench comes with a vinyl cover and contrasting stitching. As the price for the new comfort option is calling Indian around $ 1,200 (equivalent to around 1,060 euros).
