Indian FTR models 2021: Even more street performance

Even more street performance
Indian is trimming its FTR model series for the new model year to Euro 5. A radically revised chassis should also have a dynamic effect.

In terms of styling, the US V2 models have been convincing since their debut in 2019, now the Americans are also adding to the chassis so that the FTR models can keep up with the competition here too.
Smaller wheels and new suspension
The US manufacturer attributes the changes to the FTR models that will take effect in 2021 as early as the 2022 model year. And a lot has been changed. The FTR, FTR S and FTR R Carbon models now have 17-inch cast aluminum wheels that replace the previous 19-inch rims at the front and 18-inch at the rear. The series tires in sizes 120/70 and 180/55 will in future come from Metzeler and will be called Sportec. In addition, the steering head has been made steeper (25 degrees) and the caster shortened to 99.9 millimeters. In addition, the spring elements, which are now fully adjustable on all models, have been adapted to the new framework conditions. All in all, the FTR models should become much more manageable and agile.
Side effect of the smaller wheels and the spring travel reduced from 150 to 120 millimeters at the front and rear: the seat height drops by 36 to 817 millimeters. The ProTaper handlebar was also capped – by 40 millimeters.
With a new set-up, the V2 engine should start better in the cold, while cylinder deactivation (rear cylinder) while idling reduces waste heat. The upgrade to Euro 5 brings an increase in performance to 125 hp, the maximum torque remains at 120 Nm.

The FTR Variations
The Indian FTR further in four variants. The basic FTR has an analog instrument and is available in Black Smoke with red accents, including red rim tapes on the wheels, red Indian Motorcycle lettering on the tank and a red strut on the rear. The basic FTR is also available in a reduced-power A2 version. The prices for the FTR 1200 start from 13,990 euros plus additional costs.
The FTR S is available in the colors Maroon Metallic and White Smoke and has a 4.3-inch touchscreen display with telephone integration via Bluetooth or USB and configurable displays. The FTR S is equipped as standard with an Akrapovic exhaust, three driving modes, wheelie, stability and traction control and cornering ABS. A USB socket supplies power to mobile devices. Indian calls for the S version 16,490 euros plus additional costs
The FTR R Carbon is the top model in the family. In addition to the above-mentioned features of the FTR S, the carbon stands out with its tank covers, front fender and headlight fairing made of carbon fiber, a fully adjustable Ohlins fork and damper with expansion tank, a black Akrapovic exhaust and a premium seat cover. The top model is available from 18,490 euros plus additional costs.
FTR Rally goes its own way
Indian
Closest to the original scrambler / tracker idea is the FTR Rally, which is still equipped with coarsely profiled Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires on wire-spoke wheels with 18-inch rear and 19-inch front. Like the other FTR models, the FTR Rally also has refined engine calibration and rear cylinder deactivation. The FTR Rally’s ProTaper handlebar is 50 mm (2 inches) higher than other FTR models. The FTR Rally has an analog display and is available in the color Titanium Smoke. Like the basic FTR, the FTR Rally is also available in a reduced-power A2 version. From 14,990 euros plus additional costs, the rally changes hands.
