Dorna, KTM and ADAC have launched a new entry-level racing series that will start in 2020. KTM RC4R standard motorcycles are used.

In order to promote the next generation in motorcycle road racing, the ADAC, KTM and Dorna together to hold the Northern Talent Cup, which is to be held from 2020. In the new series, young talents between the ages of 12 and 17 will compete against each other with identical KTM 250 standard motorcycles with standard tires and with standard fuel and lubricants.

KTM RC4R weighs only 92 kilograms

The KTM RC4R was presented as part of the MotoGP run at the Sachsenring. The first key data were also given. The 250 cm³ single cylinder (bore x stroke: 78 mm / 52.3 mm) is combined with a five-speed gearbox and is located in a tubular steel frame. The aluminum rear frame is screwed on. The single is fed by a Keihin injection with a 44 mm throttle valve, brought to life by an electric starter. Slicks in the dimensions 95 / 75-17 at the front and 115 / 75-17 at the rear are fitted to the 2.5 and 3.5-inch wide 17-inch rims. A 290 disc in the front and a 220 disc in the rear is used for deceleration. The spring elements come from WP, of course. The 35 mm fork offers 105 mm of travel, the mono shock with lever system at the rear 45 mm. KTM states that the tank capacity is 7 liters, and the curb weight is given as 92 kilograms. The price for the Cup basic package (motorcycle plus spare parts package) is given below 10,000 euros.

The Northern Talent Cup is aimed at drivers from Northern and Central Europe with the aim of offering young drivers a competitive series at low costs. The series is limited to 24 participants and offers opportunities for advancement. There are two races every weekend. At least one rider from the Northern Talent Cup will compete in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup the following year. At least two other drivers can also look forward to participating in the Rookies Cup selection event.

The expected racing calendar consists of seven races, which are preceded by a test, most likely in Oschersleben. The planned routes for the NTC weekends are:

– TT Circuit Assen (WorldSBK)
– EuroSpeedway Lausitz (IDM)
– Oschersleben (Speedweek)
– Sachsenring (MotoGP)
– Automotodrom Brno (MotoGP)
– Red Bull Ring (Event TBC)
– Hockenheimring (IDM)

The Northern Talent Cup replaces the previous ADAC Junior Cup. The IDM, which the Motor Presse Stuttgart organizes, is also used.
