Dani Pedrosa easily won the MotoGP race in Jerez. After taking pole position in qualifying, the Spaniard could not be denied victory on Sunday. Repsol team-mate Marc Marquez landed in second place; Third was Jorge Lorenzo. And how did the racing weekend in Jerez go from the perspective of the German drivers?

MotoGP: Folger’s successful fight against Rossi

In the MotoGP, Jonas Folger landed a good eighth place. The German MotoGP rookie was particularly proud of winning the fight with MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi towards the end of the race. Nevertheless, Folger could not be really happy about his third top 10 result this season:

It’s a great feeling to have beaten Valentino Rossi in a race, but to be honest, I’m not really happy about my third top 10 result. I got off to a good start at the start, but on the first laps it was incredibly difficult to overtake other drivers. We have big problems if I release the brake while overtaking, so that the next moment I can’t hold the line. It’s just impossible to overtake safely. That was a shame because our pace was really good again. We weren’t far from Maverick Vinales. Unfortunately, I made two serious mistakes each time I had to go straight out. We have to get these problems under control as quickly as possible, since we always lose a lot of time in the initial phase. Later, when I saw Valentino in front of me, I pushed hard to catch up with him. However, I quickly realized that he was struggling with the same problems. Ultimately, braking past him worked really well and in the two laps that followed I went to the limit again to gain a lead. That was definitely the highlight of this race. On the other hand, it annoys me a little that Johann was a lot faster again. I might have stuck to Maverick without my mistakes. But Johann was clearly faster and he is extremely strong in the beginning. I don’t know what he’s doing. If he attacks, he is also safe and always hits the line. Moto2: Schrotter in the top 10, Cortese out

While Sandro Cortese was eliminated in Jerez on the ninth lap, Marcel Schrotter crossed the finish line in sixth place. Schrotter already landed in the top 10 at the last race in Texas. From the German point of view, things can go on like this. In the overall standings, Schrotter improved to eleventh place with 23 points.

Moto3: Ottl falls and breaks his collarbone

The weekend was very bitter for Philipp Ottl. The German Moto3 rider fell in qualifying on Saturday and broke his collarbone three times. A start on Sunday was therefore out of the question. Whether Ottl can start the next race in Le Mans on May 21, 2017 will only be decided after the operation. However, the chances shouldn’t be too good. In any case, we wish you a speedy recovery.
