It’s just a small, inconspicuous box, but one that significantly supports our hobby. The six-axis Sonsorbox or, to put it correctly, the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) is already being installed on their motorcycles by numerous manufacturers. This miniaturized inertia sensor not only records the accelerations of the motorcycle, but also the turning and rolling movements as well as the exact lean angle. With these values recorded in milliseconds, all engine control, chassis and brake systems can then be fed, which react to the circumstances at lightning speed.

Bosch Europe Head of Motorcycle Technology Dr. Fevzi Yildirim (r.) Accepts the Innovation Award for the groundbreaking IMU sensor box from MOTORRAD editor-in-chief Michael Pfeiffer.

A lengthy development process was required for use in a motorcycle; for example, the movements in the motorcycle due to vibrations and environmental influences from waste heat to rain were not allowed to affect the IMU. Bosch has invested a lot here and now ensures that motorcycle fun is much safer without you really noticing it during normal driving. ABS, traction control, wheelie control and much more are only really possible with the IMU. MOTORRAD warmly congratulates!
