New Zero models
DSR / X and FXE point towards Enduro
Zero has two new model names protected with DSR / X and FXE. Both could point to more off-road models.
D.he two trademark applications were filed on August 12, 2020 in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for use for "Electric motorcycles; Motorcycles and components therefor; Motocross motorcycles" registered. The trademark protection for motocross motorcycles makes you sit up and take notice at first, but is quickly put into perspective when you know that it was also registered with the trademark rights for dual sport models DS and DSR.
The new model names leave plenty of room for speculation. DSR / X should stand for another version of the DSR, whereby the X could stand for a somewhat stronger off-road orientation. We’re guessing a DSR with spoked wheels – 21 inches at the front and a little more travel. Here the Zero FX could serve as a donor. So far, the DS and DSR models have relied on cast rims and 19 inches at the front.
FXE possibly Crosser from Zero
zero
Zero MX from 2012.
The model name FXE is more difficult to interpret. For an electric motorcycle manufacturer like Zero, the E doesn’t stand for electric. With the FX, Zero already has an enduro model in its range. Now it’s worth taking a look back to the beginnings of Zero, when the Americans still had real off-road models such as the Zero MX from 2012 in their range. Off-road sales are currently on the rise in the US market in particular. The corresponding figures increased by over 50 percent in the first half of 2020 compared to the previous year.
So it will be interesting to see what Zero still has in the quiver.
