ABS control unit / hydraulic unit

ABS and BMW have been almost inseparable for decades. After all, Bayern were once a pioneer in this area. And as it is in a close relationship – problems can arise. MOTORRAD knows some defects in ABS control units (“Hydraulic units”), also the private K 1200 GT of our editor colleague Klaus Herder was affected.

For a planned article, the editorial team is looking for information on damage that has occurred, its possible causes and repairs that have become necessary. Possibly not only with BMW, but also with other brands that have been using anti-lock braking systems for a long time, such as Honda and Yamaha.

We therefore ask drivers of all motorcycle brands for brief answers to the following questions:
• Have you ever had a permanent failure of an ABS control unit (hydraulic unit)?
• What type of damage was diagnosed?
• With which brand and which model did the defect occur?
• What was the mileage at that time?
• Was it a motorcycle with or without a brake booster??
• When was the first registration, when was the defect?
• Had the motorcycle been parked for a long time before (winter break)?
• Brake for a long time before the defect, without ever coming into the ABS control range?
• How much did it cost to repair / replace the ABS control unit?
• Which dealer or specialist repaired the motorcycle??
• Has the component been replaced or repaired??

We like to keep the names of our readers anonymous on request, but a full name and a telephone number will help us with our research. We treat your data confidentially, but may have to inquire.
