The cable can tear and the engine can die

Too much tension can tear the negative cable, which leads to a sudden loss of power and the engine to stop, which is why some Ducati Hypermotard 950 / SP are recalled.

The current Ducati recall is about the model series Hypermotard 950 and Hypermotard 950 SP. The respective owners will be informed by Ducati, the recall campaign in Germany has been running since today (November 12, 2019). The possible error was determined by an internal quality control.

According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), models built in 2018 and 2019 can be affected, Ducati itself speaks of the production period of the models from 2019 to 2020. 5,056 vehicles are affected worldwide, in Germany there are 702 copies according to the manufacturer.

Due to the routing of the cable (left), there may be too much tension on the negative cable and it will tear. In the workshops, the cable is laid and secured differently.

The KBA informs as follows: A “fault in the battery ground connection can lead to failure of the vehicle electrics and the engine”. As you can see in the picture, it is possible that the battery’s negative cable is under voltage and can tear. This in turn inevitably leads to the engine stalling.

Cable is turned over in the workshop

Ducati Hypermotard 950 / SP of the affected production periods are called back to the dealers. They then check the laying of the negative cable and redirect it if necessary and install insulation pads on the battery holder and under the bench (see picture).

The measure is carried out free of charge and, according to Ducati, takes about 30 minutes. Accidents due to this deficiency are currently unknown.
