Royal Enfield Lock Stock (2018)
650 twin in dragster outfit
To promote its new two-cylinder models, Royal Enfield built a dragster based on the 650. The Lock Stock relies on nitrous oxide injection.
With the Interceptor and Continental GT models R.oyal Enfield presented two new models based on the new 650 twin-cylinder engine at EICMA 2017. As an accompanying measure, the Indians have now had a dragster built around the new twin – the Royal Enfield Lock Stock. As a partner, they got the well-known US tuner S&S on board. The Royal Enfield Lock Stock was presented at the Bike Shed Show in London in May 2018.
Output more than doubled
In the hands of S&S put the twin in displacement through thicker pistons from 649 cm³ to a whopping 865 cm³. The compression was increased significantly and the timing was sharpened with a new camshaft. The connecting rods had to give way to forged parts. The throttle body was increased to 38 mm passage.
Royal Enfield
The twin doubles its performance.
A nitrous oxide injection was adapted to the two-cylinder as a further performance-enhancing measure. In order to withstand the impending rush in performance, the gearbox and clutch were massively reinforced. You can exhale relatively freely under the engine through side pipes. The bottom line is that the twin should deliver more than 100 hp at just under 7,000 rpm and 114 Nm at 5,800 rpm. In the basic version there are only 47 HP and 52 Nm.
Harris frame, PVM rims
The potent twin was embedded in a completely redesigned tubular steel frame with an extremely long and rigid rear. It was made by the well-known frame builder Harris Performance, whom the Indians incorporated into their empire in 2015 and who has already developed the frames for the new 650 models.
Royal Enfield
Harris supplies the rigid frame.
The 3.5 x 17 inch PVM front wheel is guided by an Ohlins upside-down fork, which has only minimal travel for use on the dragstrip. At the back there is a PVM rim measuring 5.25 x 17 inches. Shinko contributes the little profiled tires. Bremspower delivers a 320 single-disc system from Brembo with a radially screwed four-piston caliper. At the rear, the Lock Stock also uses Bembo components. For the 1/8 mile sprint, the Royal Enfield Lock Stock is equipped with a 17-tooth sprocket at the front and a 40-tooth sprocket at the rear.
Just a show bike
The extremely crouched Lock Stock looks infinitely long, its wheelbase is 1,570 mm and thus clearly exceeds the basic bike. The tubular handlebar, which is extremely bent down at the ends, is also striking. The tank, front fender, the mini fairing and the belly pan are made of carbon fiber laminate and decorated with a black and white cameo look. A mini LED headlight and an LED rear light under the leather one-man bench add a little legality. The Lock Stock doesn’t get any more legal, because it shouldn’t be more than a show bike.
