Flip-up helmet, full-face helmet and open face helmet

Is it still modular or already foldable? Thanks to its folding mechanism, the Shark Evo GT can be used as a full-face helmet or as a jet helmet. No element needs to be removed or added to the helmet for this.

If you want to enjoy the advantages of a flip-up helmet, namely to decide flexibly whether you want to ride with the chin section open or closed, you have a large selection of helmets in all price ranges. The special thing about Shark Evo GT – and already on its two predecessors Evo One and Evo One 2 – is the folding mechanism patented by Shark.

Push the chin section all the way back

When folding up, the chin section does not simply lock above the driver’s forehead, but can be pushed all the way back over the head. When moving back and forth, the visor automatically moves into the correct position. If you slide the chin part back, it clicks into place at the back of the head – and the jet helmet is ready.

The Shark Evo GT is – like the previous models – homologated both as a full-face helmet and as a jet helmet. This is called P / J homologation. That means it can officially not only be used as a full-face helmet, but also as a jet helmet. Modular helmets usually have this double homologation, but not every flip-up helmet. If the ECE 22.05 (P / J) test mark is on your flip-up helmet, you can also use it as a jet helmet. If only one “P.” is noted, then the chin section belongs down for the ride. Who cares? In the event of an accident, for example, the insurance company could be interested.

Shark Evo GT suitable for people who wear glasses

Back to the Shark Evo GT: The shell is made of polycarbonate, the lining is made of recycled fibers. It comes with an integrated sun visor, which can be operated continuously using a slide on the top of the helmet. The scope of delivery also includes cheek pads in two different sizes.

The Evo GT is suitable for people who wear glasses and is compatible with the Sharktooth communication system. Three openings on the front and two on the back ensure fresh air circulation, while the wind deflector below the chin is equipped with a magnet and can be easily folded in and out.

Changes to the previous model

The visor with pinlock preparation is said to be far less prone to scratches on the Shark Evo GT. In addition, Shark has probably revised the aerodynamics again to make the Evo GT quieter. And at 1,680 grams, it is 60 grams lighter than its predecessor (weight in size M).

The Shark Evo GT is available from 429.99 euros. There is a choice of eleven colors or designs, as well as the sizes XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL, which share two shell sizes.

Conclusion

After Shark One and One 2, the Evo GT takes over. And with the tried and tested concept: if you wish, fold up the chin section, slide it back, click the chin section into place and use the Evo GT as a jet helmet. The chin section does not have to be removed – as is the case with many modular helmets – and it is not locked above the forehead when it is folded up – as with a classic flip-up helmet. Since it is homologated as a full-face helmet and a jet helmet, it can officially be used in both variants.
