New rubbers for sport, touring and cruisers
Michelin has almost completely overhauled its two-wheel tire range for the 2020 season. The French have a total of ten new tires on offer.
Uli Baumann
December 11, 2019
The new releases for 2020 include four sports and racetrack profiles, two models for cruisers, a touring tire, two cross profiles and an M.&S-marked scooter tire.
For sports drivers and racers
The Power 5 is available to replace the Power RS and Power RS + sports tires. With its 2CT compound, it was developed for maximum driving pleasure on public roads. The Power 5 comes in 120/70 ZR 17 on the front wheel and in all common 17-inch dimensions from 160/60 to 200/55 on the rear.
Michelin
If you like it even more sporty, you can use the new Power GP tire, which was developed as a super sport tire with a driving profile of 50:50 street: racetrack. A little negative profile make the GP look almost like a slick. Again sets Michelin on 2CT mixtures. The Power GP is available as 120/0 ZR 17 tires at the front. At the rear there are 17-inch dimensions from 180/55 to 190/55 in the range.
The hypersport tire Power Cup 2 is even more slick and although still approved for road use, it is clearly aimed at the racetrack. Accordingly, it is designed for maximum dry grip and constant hot grip. The Power Cup 2 replaces the Power Cup Evo. It will be available from January 2020 in the front wheel size 120/70 ZR 17 and the 17-inch rear wheel sizes 180/55, 190/55 and 200/55.
The Power Slick 2 was developed only for the racetrack as the successor to the Power Slick Evo. As a tire for track days and amateur racers, it should combine easy drivability, high grip, high mileage and a short warm-up time. The range of dimensions includes the sizes 120/70 ZR 17, 190/55 ZR 17 and 200/55 ZR 17.
For (sports) tourers and cruisers
The new Michelin Commander III, which is available in the Cruiser and Touring versions, is in less of a hurry. The Commander III Cruiser will be available in 15 different dimensions and thus covers a wide range of possible combinations for many cruiser and chopper models. The Commander III Touring was specially developed in twelve dimensions for heavy super tourers and their requirements for high loads. Cruiser and Touring differ in the profile picture.
Michelin
The Michelin Road 5 GT with its reinforced carcass structure has its sights set on heavy tourers with high payloads. Otherwise the GT remains unchanged compared to the well-known Road 5. It is available on the front wheel in sizes 120/70 ZR 17 and ZR18. At the rear it is available in 17-inch dimensions from 160/60 to 190/55.
Michelin
The scooter drivers were not forgotten. Here comes the City Grip 2 with M.&S marking on the City Grip and City Grip Winter types. The scooter tire is available in 32 dimensions from 12 to 16 inches in diameter.
For enduro and cross
But Michelin also wants to continue to score off the road. The new Michelin Enduro Xtrem, which will be available from January 2020 in the rear wheel size 140 / 80-18 M / C 57R, should shine with a lot of traction and extreme wear resistance. The StarCross 5 Mini was developed for young crossers and is available in five dimensions from ten to 14 inches in diameter.
