Former GP racing driver Loris Reggiani tries his hand at becoming an electric bike manufacturer. With the Thundervolt NK-E, a purely electrically powered model has now been presented.

Loris Reggiani, born in 1959, was on the road in the Grand Prix circus until the end of the 1995 season. In 2019 he started a new career as an electric bike manufacturer.

Supermoto on 12 inch wheels

Reggiani’s debut work is called Thundervolt NK-E and competes as a single-seat mini-supermoto. It was presented at the bike show in Verona. Reggiani starts small, however, because the Thundervolt is a model in pit bike format with twelve-inch wheels, with a 100/80 tire at the front and a 120/80 tire at the rear. Nevertheless, it has a steel tubular space frame, an upside-down fork and a central spring strut on the tubular space arm. The total length is given as 1,580 mm, the wheelbase as 1,120 mm.

The battery allows up to 60 minutes of driving pleasure.

The electric drive relies on a wheel hub motor in the rear wheel. The continuous output is 4 kW, the peak output is 8 kW and the maximum torque is 168 Nm. The lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 40 Ah takes up the space that usually goes to the combustion engine. Hydraulic disc brakes are used to decelerate. A four-piston caliper bites into the 220 mm disc at the front. A single-piston caliper and a 200 mm disc were combined at the rear.

Over a distance of only 40 meters, the Thundervolt, which weighs only 85 kilograms, should be able to accelerate to a maximum speed of 90. If you want a different performance characteristic, you can optionally have this imported into the drive control via software. With one battery charge, you should have up to 30 minutes of driving fun, and if you take it easy, you can drive for around an hour.

The manufacturer has not yet announced a price for the Thundervolt.
