Triumph Bobber Bonneville 2021
From new bobbers and old bobbers
The bobber is dead, long live the bobber. Triumph is removing the Bobber from its range for the 2021 season, renaming the Bobber Black and giving it the Euro 5 brand.

It was clear to the author at the presentation of the Bobber Black in the hallowed halls of Hinckley in 2017: With the update of the brakes, the thick fork and real bobber tires, the days of the bobber with the 19-inch cutting disc and the always overwhelmed single are over -Brake counted. The counting dragged on for another four years and ended with the number 80. Triumph 2020 was able to sell just as much bobber in Germany. From the Black, however, state 327. Even without a math advanced course, it is so clear why only the Bobber Black will be given the Euro 5 seal for 2021.
Bobber Black becomes Euro 5 Bobber
The Bobber Black model no longer exists. The only remaining model for the 2021 season looks like the Black, but does not have the addition. Just triumph Bonneville Bobber please, full name. Triumph wanted to concentrate more on the bobber with the powerfully built front, it said at the press conference. With the concentration finally comes a tank for the bobber that deserves its name: The fuel bunker grows from nine to twelve liters, which can provide a range of 260 kilometers with the specified consumption of 4.6 liters. So that this range is also taken under the thick 16-inch wheels in compliance with Euro 5, Triumph has given the new bobber an adapted mapping and reduces the flywheel mass of the 270-degree twin with its 1,200 cubic meters. It is now starting the new season with 106 Nm at 4,000 tours and 78 hp at 6,100 revolutions. In nominal terms, this means one horsepower more than before, and the new set-up ensures a slight gain in power from around 5,500 revolutions.

New style in Bobberland
The Showa fork known from the Bobber Black with its 47 millimeter stanchions and 90 millimeter suspension travel, the Brembo double disc at the front and the 16-inch MT90B16 front wheel give the Bobber a new look and character. This is underlined by the new black round instrument with an analogue scale and small display for the on-board computer that can be operated from the handlebars. The engine gets targeted retouching through the black powdered engine cover, valve cover and engine sprocket cover. Behind the engine and the new tank, the bobber remains unchanged: the apparently freely swinging saddle is still adjustable and, thanks to new accessory saddles, can also be optically adapted to your own wishes. Under the saddle, the flat-lying Kayaba strut with 77 millimeters of spring travel can be replaced with an adjustable one from Fox. The rear wheel continues to turn in the 150/80 R 16 cage swing arm. A 255-millimeter disc with a Nissin brake caliper ensures deceleration. As the first tire, Triumph relies on the Cobra from Avon, with the AV71 at the front and the AV72 at the rear.

New geometry for more handling
The complete change in the front section also gives the bobber a new geometry. Although the numbers do not change by large values, they show a fine-tuning of important key data. The steering head angle flattens out by 0.4 degrees to 64.6 degrees, at the same time the wheelbase shrinks by ten to 1,500 millimeters and the important caster increases by 4.1 to 92 millimeters. The combination with the lightweight tires should give the bobber precise, neutral handling, more feedback from the front and high agility even at higher speeds.

Colors, technology, accessories and prices
With the powerful update of the Bobber comes a new LED headlight with a 5-inch diameter, central T-branding and LED daytime running lights. The new Bobber also comes with a cruise control system as standard, which consists of just one button and is ready for use from third gear between 48 and 160 kilometers per hour. The two driving modes Road and Rain, ABS, a traction control that can be switched off, and a torque-assisted clutch with anti-hopping function to reduce manual effort are still on board.
Two new colors are coming with the Euro 5 bobber: Matt Storm Gray / Matt Ironside and Cordovan Red complement the well-known Jet Black. If you want to beautify your bobber even more, Triumph offers 77 parts from the accessories. Including forward footrests, running boards, shortened fenders, an ape hanger conversion or handlebar stubs, as well as all sorts of milled parts for decoration.
Triumph Motorcycles
New accessories are running boards with a rocker switch for the bobber.
The new Triumph Bobber will be available from April 2021 for 13,950 euros plus ancillary costs – 250 euros more than in 2020. However, maintenance is only required every 16,000 kilometers or once a year.
Conclusion
The original Bobber with its exotic 16-inch rear and 19-inch front wheel combination was a real eye-catcher at first and second glance. With the rather toothless biting single disc at the front and the thin fork, however, the package could only do little to counter the power of the engine in the long run.
And a bobber with a thin, large wheel in front is not a bobber either. With the Bobber Black, Triumph then quickly pushed something appropriate – with a thick Knubbel wheel at the front, stable brake and powerful fork. Their good registration numbers in Germany, compared to the standard bobber, give an indication of why Triumph only hangs a 16-inch version with the bobber label and does not raise the exotic station wagon to the Euro 5 standard. Also very beneficial: The powerful update goes hand in hand with a moderate price increase.
