Honda Hornet 900
With a powerful drive and high driving dynamics, Honda’s big hornet shows the sting of traditional naked bikes. The 900 series can also come up with sound arguments as a used one?

When related to the Honda Hornet 900 When talking about an uncomplicated motorcycle, then this applies in two senses. Because the agile 900er not only makes life easy for its pilot, but also for the manufacturer. In order to save development and production costs, Honda simply reached into the shelf and combined the four-cylinder CBR 900 RR Fireblade, built in 1998, with the simple central tubular frame of the Hornet 600. It only had to be reinforced in a few points, as the revised engine – Among other things with injection, reduced peak power and more torque in the middle range – at the same time acts as a supporting element of this frame construction. Overall, a convincing combination, because the Hornet 900 impresses with a balanced driving behavior that combines directional stability with agile handling and high steering precision. Exception: when accelerating violently on jarring slopes, it tends to cause dangerous bumps in the handlebars. Thanks to the short gear ratio and the very spontaneous power delivery of the engine, the large hornet is one of the sporty dynamics among the naked bikes. Nevertheless, ergonomics, stability and suitability for everyday use are not neglected, which is why the rather economical Hornet 900 can be particularly recommended to second-hand buyers who just want to drive.

Facelift – Honda Hornet 900
2002: Market launch of the Hornet 900 (type SC 48) with 109 hp. The engine comes from the CBR 900 RR Fireblade, which was built until 1999, but has been trimmed with a modified cylinder head and valve train as well as reduced compression for better torque output in the middle speed range. The injection with U-Kat (8790 euros) is also new.
2004: Subtle facelift with a new fork, where the spring base and rebound damping can now be adjusted. The shock absorber also has adjustable rebound damping. Also new: compliance with the Euro 2 emissions standard, chrome surrounds on the instruments, revised ignition and injection map for a smoother response, additional luggage hooks, modified seat lock (8940 euros)
2005: Last year of sales of the Hornet 900 in Germany; no technical changes (8940 euros)
2006: Sale of the remaining copies – some with daily admission – at significantly reduced prices from around 6,900 euros; The 900 is still available abroad
Recall July 2003: Defect in the area of the fuel pump. Models with the chassis end numbers 101111 to 101630 were ordered into the workshops

Visit – Honda Hornet 900
The mix of the simple and the tried and tested pays off, as the Honda Hornet 900 impressively proves. The undisguised 900 does not have any typical weaknesses. Which is not surprising, of course, because the water-cooled four-cylinder engine was already one of the most stable super sports car engines in the Fireblade times – unthrottled almost 130 hp. Frame, spring elements and brakes are solid standard parts that also do their job without any problems. Used buyers can therefore concentrate on the usual checkpoints. Pay attention to the operating permit for the accessories that are often installed.
Market situation – Honda Hornet 900
The demand for used Hornet 900s is not great. Nevertheless, the Honda can be started relatively easily, provided the price is right. The many daily registrations and new machines that are currently on the Internet for 7,000 euros are good for those interested. They are noticeably lowering the price level for used vehicles.
