Used advice Honda Pan European 1300
Relaunched in 2002

It has leveled off. After many teething problems, the Pan European, which was re-launched in 2002, managed to find steadfast friends. The 1300 is a long way from the pan cult of its 1100 predecessor, but it is available at fair prices.

After a long dry spell, the new one finally came in 2002. Pan-European fans and the trade press had been looking forward to the ST 1300 with the highest expectations, and then that: from 180 km / h the load began to commute so that express stages on German motorways became uncomfortable. Pan fans were bitter, sometimes jumped off to the competition or simply stayed on their tried and tested ST 1100. What was often forgotten: The new 1300 had this weakness, but on the other hand an enormous number of strengths such as a high-torque, sophisticated four-cylinder, plenty of storage space, sophisticated ergonomic adjustment options. In short: the Pan had what it takes to be the best travel machine ever.

But the good reputation was gone – because of typical Honda perfection. Especially since the touring machine was not a bargain at around 16,000 euros. From 2003 the Pan only sold three-digit numbers, although after some improvements (see model upgrade) the motorcycle is actually an almost perfect tourer. Dealers still have a hard time and try discount campaigns. As a result, used ones that are as good as new drop in price, and older models with many kilometers are now very affordable. Clever prospects know that…

Annoyances such as an oil pan that quickly touches down on curbs, too much heat behind the cladding or pinched ventilation hoses are usually a thing of the past because these teething troubles. which occurred up to and including 2003, should long ago have been remedied in product recalls. Nevertheless, you should check the history carefully, especially for the first two model years. The engine is considered reliable, even if so far only a few machines have exceeded the 100,000 mark. Accessories are a minor matter in the series, which is already in tip-top condition. More important: check the condition of wear parts (brakes, tires, bearings), ideally check the paneling for cracks and scratches and check when the last inspection (every 6000 km) was made. If everything is correct, nothing stands in the way of a long partnership.

Market situation

There is hardly any specific demand for this motorcycle (around two thirds are dealer offers). While the old Pan European The newer 1300s are more well-informed touring riders who know about the actual values of the machine and are now on the hunt for bargains. In addition, those who switch from rather bland touring motorcycles à la Bandit or XJ 900 fit into the grid of prospects, because the Honda used as a luxury tourer is very affordable with not too many kilometers (under 40,000) (good machines are already around 7,000 euros). Private sellers find it very difficult to sell a well-maintained, comparatively young (built from 2006) copy – the phone will probably remain silent if prices are higher than 10,000 euros.
