EICMA 2019

The new Benelli models Leoncino 800 and Leoncino 800 Trail were already presented at EICMA 2019. For the 2021 model year they will finally be on the market. The Italians also have a strong focus on the German market.

It has been over 15 years since Benelli, a traditional Italian manufacturer, was taken over by the Chinese QJ Group. But it was soon over with the grandeur of the large and sporty three-cylinder, the new owners baked quite small rolls. But gradually the manufacturer with the lion in the coat of arms is getting going again. Brought already three years ago B.enelli launched the modern classic Leoncino 500, which sells really well in Italy.

Leoncino 800 now finalized

Now the 800 version of the Leoncino (German: young lion) is in the starting blocks, and it could well meet with heightened interest in Germany as well: the look is right, and the processing turned out to be very careful after first inspection. The focus of the sinewy and muscular design is the brand new water-cooled two-cylinder with 754 cm³, which is built in China by the parent company. It delivers 76.2 hp, tuned to Euro 5, and has a maximum torque of 68 Nm. For the presentation at EICMA 2019, the data was still 82 PS and 67 Newton meters. The tubular space frame is also new, the metal tank holds 16 liters. On board are high-quality European components, such as a fully adjustable 50 mm upside-down fork from Marzocchi (130 mm travel / trail: 140 mm), a central spring strut with adjustable preload (130 mm travel / trail: 140 mm) or the Brembo Brake system with 320 double disc in front and 260 disc in rear. The seat height varies between 805 and 830 millimeters.

800 in two versions

Benelli

The Leoncino 800 doesn’t come alone: it is supported by the Trail version with an off-road look. While the Leoncino rolls on 17-inch wheels with Pirelli MT 60 RS tires in the dimensions 120/70 and 180/55, the Leoncino 800 Trail is 19 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear. Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires of size 120/70 and 170/60 are fitted here. Extended suspension travel, a higher bench seat and the filigree exhaust positioned higher up are further characteristics of the Trail.

Both models are expected to arrive at dealerships in the first half of 2021. Originally, the Italians wanted to launch the large Leoncino models in summer 2020. Benelli has not yet announced prices, but experience has shown that they are rather cheap.

Conclusion

Benelli is expanding its range of models with the 800 models. They should meet the taste of the audience and bring Benelli significantly forward.
