Oil or spray? Good lubricant for the bike is also cheap

Good lubricants must maintain and protect, should be well-dosed and of course not too expensive. The test organization has tested 15 drip oils and chain sprays. Site shows the results.

In spring, millions of Germans rise to the bike. But after winter the wheel needs a decent spring check. Very important: The chain must be well maintained and lubricated. There are two options for this: Either drip oils or chain sprays. The test organization GTu has tested ten drip oils and five sprays. A good lubricant must be a lot: it does not just have to lubricate well, but also have a positive impact on the wear of the chain. In addition, the oils should protect against rust. And a good lubricant only makes sense if it is easy to use and easily dose. All this has checked the GTu in a test laboratory.

The best drip oils

The results:

• Test winner at the drip oils was the F100 chain oil of "Dr. Wack". Unfortunately, it is also one of the most expensive oils in the test.
• The best price-performance ratio has the chain oil of Dynamic. Here cost 100 milliliters just under 10 euros.
• The worst products in the GTu test came from Atlantic, Ernst, Nigrin and Hanseline. Judgment of the tester to all: "Conditionally recommended".

The best chain sprays

The chain sprays won the spray "Top-chain" from Brunox. Price-performance winner was the "Oil of Switzerland" from Motorex. Overall, the testers found: chain sprays are more convenient to apply as drip oils and also crawler – that is, the lubricant is then better in the smallest cracks. Drip oils also have an advantage: you can use them more economical and more precisely.
