Inspired by the last heroes of the Paris-Dakar and their victorious BMW machines, the Bavarian manufacturer shows a new interpretation of the BMW R Nine-T perfectly in line with the spirit of the Wheels & Waves Festival. Its name: BMW Motorrad Concept Lac Rose.
Since it was introduced to the market, the BMW R Nine-T has become a popular motorcycle for tuners as seen at Wheels & Waves. It makes us very proud and inspired us to create something special for this festival, something that no one has seen from us before, ”says Edgard Heinrich, Head of Design at BMW Motorrad explaining the background of this concept motorcycle. . “The BMW Motorrad Concept Lac Rose is our laid-back and very personal interpretation of the bike that won the Paris-Dakar rally in 1985 – in full accordance with the spirit of Wheels & Waves and its visitors. It puts the BMW R Nine-T in an exciting new context and shows what passion for our brand heritage, imagination and a few modifications can achieve. “

Lac Rose is located 35 km northeast of Dakar and less than a kilometer from the Atlantic coast. The legendary Paris-Dakar rally came to an end here after the many difficult stages through the desert. The podium is located right by the lake and the winners received their prizes amid the crowd of enthusiastic fans. The BMW factory machines, modified by the company HPN, achieved victory three times in a row in the mid-1980s. Gaston Rahier took the third victory in 1985 with the starting number 101.
When G / S meets R Nine-T.
The Concept Lac Rose has the typical characteristics of the victorious ex-motorcycle on the basis of a modern, Street-oriented version. Its remarkable off-road qualities are consciously omitted. “Essentially this bike is a cool, laid back roadster with some typical off-road features that let you get off the streets and follow a dirt road into the unknown,” says Edgar Heinrich. “It’s the combination of personalization, freshness and non-conformism that makes this a motorcycle so special.”
The windshield with typical rally equipment, the characteristic headlight design with the large mudguard, a large tank and a short saddle are all memorabilia of the legendary G / S. All these elements are reminiscent of the styling line. horizontal characteristic of the BMW G / S motorcycles of the time, giving the Concept Lac Rose its essential proportions. Long-travel suspensions as well as spoked wheels with studded tires are as mandatory as the color combination of a remarkable orange on an alpine white background and the famous number 101.
