At first glance different from normal motorcycle clothing: BMW’s design for the safety clothing of the future.
The backpack vest is attached to the jacket with a magnet.
The integrated technology enables various light functions for better visibility.
Different signals on different parts of the vest can light up.
Standard protectors are of course also sewn into the jacket.
A head-up display in the form of glasses complements the equipment.

BMW Connected Riders Gear: smart motorcycle equipment
BMW Connected Riders Gear
Design of a smart motorcyclist outfit
More safety for previously less protected road users, including motorcyclists, – that is the idea behind the development of BMW’s new concepts for motorcyclist equipment.
December 10, 2019
Much has happened in the past few decades in terms of active and passive road safety – but mainly for road users who are sitting in cars. It looks a little different for motorcyclists. Thanks to built-in inclined position sensors, more and more new models with even more effective safety electronics are rolling out, but without a sheet metal cover, their drivers are still less well protected on the road.
Driver equipment, which should provide protection and safety independently of this sheet metal shell, is currently working on it BMW motorcycle and now presented a concept of what smart driver equipment could look like in the future. When BMW presented the Vision DC Roadster e-roadster study in June 2019, we already got a foretaste of the individual components.
Networking, head-up display and visibility
In terms of connectivity, the equipment study is based on the networking of driver equipment, smartphone and the motorcycle itself. Information is played directly into the pilot’s field of vision via a head-up display in the form of glasses. In addition to the usual information from the cockpit, this can also include, for example, information on traffic behind or on the side, thus expanding the driver’s field of vision. This is called Augmented Reality (AR) in technical jargon.
The clothing itself also has functions that go beyond what is currently used by motorcycle clothing: In addition to heating and cooling functions that can be controlled via the motorcycle, individual components, such as the jacket, should improve visibility with warning lights and luminous symbols.
