Not satisfied with offering one of the best road cars on the market with its R 1150 RT, BMW outbid a model competing directly with the Goldwing: the K 1200 LT. Taking up the engine and chassis architecture of the RS, it is distinguished by several points (except of course on the silhouette): The engine has been reworked to offer more torque at low revs, and the gearbox is 5-speed. The chassis remains faithful to the Telelever and Paralever. The latter is lengthened by 8 cm and the two elements are connected by a frame in aluminum foundry. In the equipment department, it’s Byzantium: heated and height-adjustable saddle, heated top-case handles and backrest, on-board computer, cruise control, 8 HP stereo, optional 6 CD charger (which cuts off a good part from the right saddlebag), ABS, windshield (2 sizes to choose from) adjustable, reverse gear … and I could go on for a dozen minutes.
With its torque, the Bavarian 4-cylinder has no trouble towing the colossal machine. A little “drier” than the Honda 6 flat, this mill is not in the wild but in the efficient.

Its consumption is more than reasonable and the cruising speed surprising. On board this highway vessel, we travel in senatorial comfort: seated in an armchair, enjoying absolute protection, the pilot sings his hymn to travel in the most perfect tranquility. In dynamics, the big road is surprising. It does not move on the course that is dictated to it and remains imperturbable in the large curves approached at sustained speed. For lack of sufficient ground clearance, the footrests rub quickly in case of optimism on the angle. Maneuvers in town will not be as easy as with RT. The juggernaut approaches the half-ton with a duo on it. Its elegance, modernism and comfort make it a formidable competitor against the essential Goldwing..
