The situation in Emilia-Romagna |
In total, nearly 14,000 people are currently homeless in Emilia-Romagna. This region of Italy deplores about 25 dead and nearly 350 injured, according to the first official reports. The damage is particularly heavy for the agro-food sector (500 million euros) in particular. Because in addition to being the cradle of many motorcycle (Ducati, Moto Morini or Bimota) and auto (Ferrari and Lamborghini) manufacturers, Emilia-Romagna is a very important producer of Parmesan and balsamic vinegar.. |
Responsible for the death of 17 people and extensive material damage, the two major earthquakes (5.8 and 5.6 on the Richter scale) struck in the heart of the Emilia-Romagna region less than ten days after a first earthquake that has already caused seven deaths.
These earthquakes follow a large number of shocks of lesser magnitude felt in Italy since May 20 (see box opposite).
Like most manufacturers in the region (Ferrari and Lamborghini, in particular), Ducati had to stop its activity on Tuesday and evacuated its 750 employees. No injuries were to be deplored among Ducati employees and neither the factory nor the head office suffered any damage..
As activity resumed normally yesterday, the production and delivery of Italian motorcycles should not be delayed according to information sent by Ducati France to Site.
