Erik Buell Racing (EBR), the company created by Erik Buell after being let down by Harley-Davidson in 2009, is said to have ceased operations and declared bankruptcy due to an accumulation of unpaid invoices to the tune of $ 20 million, claims the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal…

"The turn that events have recently taken, when we thought we were out of the woods, is unexpected", comments Erik Buell, pictured opposite on a prototype of one of his racing motorcycles.

"We thought we had secured funds, but we were not able to finalize our financing. Therefore, we are going to have to do our best in these circumstances to protect the interests of all parties.".

"To say that this setback is a disappointment does not really reflect what I feel at this moment … I am personally grateful for the support of our incredible employees, customers and dealers", comments the ingenious and passionate American manufacturer, whose company based in East Troy (Wisconsin) has 126 employees, now unemployed.

According to Journal Sentinel, EBR is currently under state protection of Wisconsin and will soon be auctioned. If no buyer is known, the assets will be liquidated and the profits will be used to pay the creditors. At least in part, given the exorbitant amount of unpaid bills…

Thanks to the support of the Indian manufacturer Hero – -, Erik Buell’s structure had nevertheless managed to create one while retaining the particularities dear to its designer: fuel tank integrated into the frame, oil tank in the swingarm, huge perimeter front disc clamped by an 8-piston caliper and a peculiar, uh, plastic !

Always attracted to competition, Erik Buell has been hired last year in, after convincing Hero to inject funds into this adventure without obtaining convincing results (Pergram and Canepa are currently in 22 and 24th places in).

EBR also lent a hand to Hero with the aim of designing "conventional" motorcycles for mass distribution, in order to help the Indian giant to . 

EBR was also relying heavily on the European market, particularly in France where it planned to deliver its first motorcycles to. A very sad end for Erik Buell and his team, even if the American assures that he has not said his last word and aspire "personally to a new and better start" … And after all, do not we never say two without three ?!
