In working order for a few months already (read), the takeover of Infront Sports and Media by the private equity group Bridgepoint has been authorized by the European Commission. The company that owns the Dorna – so MotoGP – will acquire the one that owns the rights to the Superbike World Championship.

In a press release dated December 20, the European Commission claims to have "found that the proposed transaction would give rise to certain horizontal overlaps and conglomerate relations between the parties". But after investigation, it was shown that "the overlaps were limited and that customers could turn to other operators in all the relevant markets".

In short: the play of effective competition in the European Economic Area is not significantly impeded according to the Commission, hence its approval.

Towards a single championship ?

In addition, Brussels states "that due to the dynamics of the various markets concerned, the entity resulting from the concentration would not be able to launch linked and / or grouped offers to the detriment of teams and manufacturers, of owners. local circuits and promoters, as well as advertisers and broadcasters ".

Are we heading towards a rapprochement of the two championships in the short or medium term, then towards a single championship in the longer term? ?

No one can predict, although Bridgepoint said in September that "the two series disciplines will continue to be organized and managed separately. Dorna and Infront Motor Sports are each fully committed to the long-term relationship with the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM ) as a strategic partner as well as in fruitful partnerships with teams and manufacturers, circuit owners, sponsors, broadcasters and other stakeholders "(read).
