BMW’s Motorrad branch set a new world sales record – its seventh in a row – with 164,153 motorcycles sold in 2017, a jump of + 13.2%. At this rate, the target of 200,000 units in 2020 will be reached… in 2019.

As planned by Stephan Schaller last year, BMW’s range, which was completely renewed in 2017 – in order to meet the new Euro 4 emissions standard – has enabled the Bavarian brand to reach new heights: 164,153 motorcycles sold worldwide, a seventh consecutive record !

Compared to 2016 (145,032 sales), the Germans saw their sales increase by + 13.2%. By maintaining double-digit growth (+ 10% "simply"), Site calculates that BMW would approach 199,000 units by 2019. But let’s not put the R1200GS before the flat-twin !

In 2017, however, it was on the Old Continent that the Munich firm – with its plant in Berlin – recorded the largest increases: + 7.1% in Germany (26,664 sales), + 24.3% in France (16,607), + 17.3% in Italy (14,430), + 17.6% in Spain (11,193) and + 8.7% in Great Britain and Ireland (9,550). Overall, + 15% in Europe !

"China and Japan are among the Asian markets with the strongest double-digit growth," German officials say. "In India, the BMW Group’s own sales subsidiary has successfully started selling BMW motorcycles." More info and figures in 2018 ?

Timo Resh, head of sales and marketing for BMW Motorrad, is already counting on "a further increase in sales of our vehicles in 2018 too". The redesign of the F750GS and F850GS should indeed relaunch BMW in the mid-size trail segment. MNC is more skeptical of the success of the C400X among maxiscooters.
