New technical director at Benelli

Sino-Italian manufacturer Benelli (owned by Chinese giant Qianjiang) has just announced the appointment of Claudio Consonni as technical director, replacing Mr. Pierluigi Marconi.

Sino-Italian manufacturer Benelli (owned by Chinese giant Qianjiang) has just announced the appointment of Claudio Consonni as technical director, replacing Mr.. Pierluigi marconi.

Aged 56 and domiciled in Como, Mr. Consonni worked for more than 25 years at Yamaha Motor Italia as General Technical Director and Head of Production, R&D, Quality and Customer Relations..

He notably led the Yamaha Motor Italia Racing team, with numerous victories in the Italian 600 and 1000 championships, in the Paris-Dakar, in the Pharaohs Rally, in motocross and in the enduro world championship. In 2007, he competed in the first – and only – World Constructors Superbike title for Yamaha..

Benelli, who will celebrate his 100th birthday this year, is still struggling to resurface despite the injection of Chinese capital in 2005 and the preparation of interesting models this year (read in particular).

After 130 sales in France last year including 41 scooters, the brand has sold 62 units since the start of the year and 10 in June (including three 125 scooters).
