Alarming increase in thefts of BMW R1200 GS in France
La Mutuelle des Motards and its partners note a worrying increase in the number of thefts of BMW R1200 GS motorcycles, tripled in one year in some regions !
Victim of its commercial success which is confirmed year after year (in France in 2016 and already including), the BMW R 1200 GS is the envy of many… not always respectable !

Thus "the number of thefts of BMW R 1200 GS has multiplied by 2.6 over the last 12 months in France and by 2.9 in the Marseille region", warns the Mutuelle des Motards, stressing that the thieves are probably acting on command (organized networks), "the vehicle is rarely found".
Daytime thefts on public roads
If you are the owner of an R 1200 GS – and more particularly of a recent version in the Marseille, Paris or Lyon region – the greatest caution is required: "the thefts take place during the day and unfortunately the anti-theft devices and other alarms and detection systems do not prevent the disappearance of the motorcycle ", regrets the Mutual which advises to attach your motorcycle to a fixed point:" thus, your vehicle cannot be easily lifted and transported to a truck ".

A large part of the thefts of R 1200 GS taking place on public roads, the insurer therefore recommends, "as far as possible, to park your motorcycle in a secure parking lot or garage". And if that is not possible, naturally prefer "a very busy street where thieves cannot commit their misdeeds quietly and out of sight".
