Begun in 1923 with the famous R32, BMW’s “motorcycle” activity – logically – celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2013. To celebrate this anniversary, the propeller brand has planned things big: events at the excavator, a retrospective video and even the release of a new classic Boxer engine roadster (read in particular).
And for the curious, BMW Motorrad has also designed one. Rich in information and photos, this micro-site is a real gem for Flat twin enthusiasts: BMW Motorrad’s activity is described decade by decade, each time with detailed feedback on the motorcycles produced and current events. of the brand (sports results, innovations, etc.).
Conscientious, the Germans pushed their attention to detail to the presentation and graphics of each page, which change with each era: thus, the part devoted to the 1920s is visually very classic and sober, while that retracing the period of the 60s is very "hippie flower" !
As a bonus, the Germans have made very nice assemblies featuring one of their old star motorcycle with its selected counterpart in the current range: we find a 1929 R63 (flat twin 750 cc developing 24 hp) with the new F800 GS, a 1939 R51 with R1200R, a 1955 R26 with the G650GS (common point: a single cylinder engine), a 1960 R69 with an F800R, etc..
Special mention for the rather successful insertion of the WSBK S1000RR of Marco Melandri alongside the R90S of Steve McLaughlin and Reg Pridmoredes on a photo originally showing the two BMW drivers on their way to a double at the Daytona circuit (Florida) – USA) in 1976 !
