After unveiling in December a new engine on a – very – original motorcycle prepared by the Japanese workshop Custom Works Zon, BMW now allows us to listen to this big Boxer which could equip future R1800C, R1800B, etc.. Explanations.

C400, C650 and C Evo scooters, G310, F800, S1000, R nineT, R1250 and K1600 motorcycles: the BMW Motorrad range is very wide … but incomplete! The German manufacturer intends soon to enrich its dealers and shareholders its offer by launching a brand new engine on the market !

And it is particularly its custom department that the Munich firm has the attention to expand. In the near or far future? This remains to be defined … But should no longer remain the only BMW reference in the matter: fans of big twins and shiny chrome could soon be served….

The news arrived at the end of 2018, in an explosive and roundabout way: the brand with the propeller had left to a Japanese preparer (!) The care and the honor of unveiling a new flat-twin of – very – strong displacement, through an extraordinary motorcycle called "Departed".

With its 21 and 26 inch front and rear wheels, its parallelogram fork, its "humble abode" frame, its apparent cardan transmission, its collected and stripped-down look, the Japanese motorcycle made the buzz racket on the web thanks to his photos.

BMW intends to make even more noise by publishing a video of this unique motorcycle: the designers detail their project (comments in Japanese with English subtitles) and above all, the engine with (false?) Carburettors and (real?) rockers is also expressed !

As you might expect, the fat Boxer sounds very deep and fat. Much more than the 1200 which fitted the R1200C, custom which had made a remarkable appearance in the James Bond "Tomorrow never dies" but had made a stealthier passage in the BMW catalog (1997-2004).

Will the soundtrack and vigor of the future R18 be enough to shake the Milwaukee-Eight Harley-Davidson or the Thunder Stroke Indian? The Germans will try to demonstrate it by launching – maybe soon, let’s hope? – an R1800C, then a bagger version R1800B, followed by a classic road R1800RTC, etc..
