Harley-Davidson: The new iron heaps

Coolness: A man, a bike. What sounds like Lonesome-Rider-Romantik is nothing more than the manufacturing philosophy behind the CVO models. CVO stands for Custom Vehicle Operations – the in-house screwdriver smithy. The finished FAT BOB is extracted therefore, with a lot of chromium under the elaborately painted tank and an additional tachometer on the fork. Best detail is the sadded brown leather seat. The superscript 2 after the type designation FXDFSE indicates that the Fat Bob has been revised by CVO for the second time.
Eating Kilometers: Wonderful, a Harley that sounds hearty even without modifications to the exhaust system. The displacement of the V2 has been increased from 1584 to a daunting 1804 cc. The performance increases to 84 hp and a maximum torque of 135 Newton meters, which is definitely enough motor for the 330 kg bob. Above all, you can feel the Twin Cam 110 in every operating condition: it rattles and wriggles, stamps and vibrates – and thus never leaves any doubt that a wild animal is at work between the biker’s thighs. Nonetheless, the Fat Bob is great for long-distance rides, and the suspension and brakes are impeccable.
curve scratching: Stay relaxed is the motto of the Fat Bob. Curves yes, but please not too fast. And better no bends. Finally, you can also get into the famous flow on gently rolling country roads.
Collection bag: CVO models are rare, and Harley-Davidson is reasonably priced for this exclusivity: 27,550 euros is a word, especially since an off-the-shelf Fat Bob is available from 15,285 euros.

  1. Once Harley and never again!
I bought a Harley about 18 years ago. It was just my disappointment … life. Expensive, inferior quality and technically not up to date, not to mention the driving dynamics qualities. Conclusion, after about 2 years of disappointments I sold the load again and bought a BMW. I am now driving the 3. BMW and my next motorcycle will be a BMW again. However, the Harleys really have a big advantage: the high resale value. In my opinion, however, this has the same cause as the myth and fascination of Harley Davidson: Harley’s marketing department!

  2. hammer
Riding a Harley is just awesome, I had a Softail Classic myself years ago, it was the best bike I’ve ever had. Purchase price, admittedly very high, many conversions, driven a lot and then sold again after 10 years, loss of value incl. Modifications only approx.1000 Euro. Inspections cheap, spare parts as well. Feel-good factor and fun factor priceless. I will definitely buy a Harley again when I retire at the latest, even if for some it is the precursor to a walker. But that’s more likely to be the envy of the dispossessed….

  3. matter of attitude
For purposes of technical or driving dynamic aspects, I do not find a Harley in direct competition with machines from Japan&Europe. Nevertheless, I catch myself (41J, professionally&arrived privately and was busy) more and more that the idea of the "just rolling around" without too "sporty" claim pleases. Maybe I’m gradually "ripe" for something…

  4. Unfair, very unfair…
…is your article: With great pictures (in front of the fire station) it shows men’s dreams that I dream too – unfortunately you don’t write where you can get the necessary change for them. I will keep dreaming – and save.

  5. lasting value
Even if the iron heaps are expensive, they retain their value for many years. It’s amazing what used Harleys still cost. The stoker group with the rice bowls can put them in the yellow sack after 5 years because nobody wants them anymore. The bottom line is that a Harley always pays off. And the way you drive, you live longer.
