The new bikes from Honda: mid-range as a growth booster

Honda is launching a number of new motorcycles for the upcoming season. Medium-powered models dominate. The expected new edition of the Fireblade only became an update.

Honda has seen strong growth over the past two years. In 2013, the brand grew by a whopping 10.55 percent in Germany, which is mainly due to the many new models and the trend towards inexpensive motorcycles for beginners. However, the hunt for a thousandth of a second less on the race track has been avoided. That changes this year – but only a little, because the Japanese not only have the revised CBR 1000 Fireblade and its refined sister with additional SP in the quiver. Five more new releases and some further developments should win fans across all segments.

CBR 300 from 4490 euros

Let’s start our overview with the "smallest" model. The CBR 300 looks very similar to the sister model CBR 1000 Fireblade due to the full fairing. However, the sports motorcycle is equipped with the city-ready 286 cc single-cylinder engine. With an output of 23 kW/31 hp, it is suitable for holders of the A2 license. The 164-kilo machine replaces the CBR 250 R entry-level machine, which costs 4,490 euros.

Friends of sporty mid-range motorcycles should be happy about the CBR 650 F. It is the completely redesigned successor to the CBR 600 F. With 64 kW/87 hp, the new engine offers less power than its predecessor, but the in-line four-cylinder should deliver more torque at low speeds. In addition to the full panel, the sporting all-rounder differs from a firmer tuned chassis and mute arms from the nude CB 650 F. A throttled version with 35 kW/48 hp is also available ex works for holders of driving license category A2. The price should be at the level of the predecessor (around 9000 euros). At the same time, the technically related naked 650 was relaunched, which no longer bears the nickname Hornet. It is aimed at fans who prefer to go without a disguise. A price for the CB 650 F has not yet been set.

Middle class: CTX 700

The CTX 700 street motorcycle with an in-line two-cylinder engine and 35 kW/48 hp is also coming onto the German market in the middle class. The ABS machine is available as a CTX 700 with half fairing and as a CTX 700 N without fairing. Both models are equipped with the DCT dual clutch transmission as standard. The high handlebar allows an upright and relaxed sitting position. The price is not yet fixed, but in the US, the model CTX 700 is available for converted around 5000 euros.

The ABS two-cylinder models NC 750 X, NC 750 S and the Roller Integra have increased capacity to 745 cc. The engine has an output of 40 kW/54 hp and develops a maximum torque of 68 Newton meters at 4750 rpm. However, the 48 hp models NC 700 S and X remain in the model range. The undisguised NC 700 S is available for 5730 euros from the German dealer, the variant "X" costs 6230 euros.

Fans of the VFR 800 F can now breathe a sigh of relief. Honda has revived the once popular V4 bike. For this purpose, the sports tourer has been fundamentally revised and no screws have been taken over from the predecessor. Accordingly, the new weighs ten kilograms less, with the engine now delivering 106 hp and a torque of 75 Newton meters. It is still unclear to what extent the Crosstourer variant VFR 800 X will benefit from the innovations. It only retains the technology of the old VFR generation.

Disappointment at the fireblade

Who has hoped for an electronics fireworks in the new edition of the CBR 1000 Fireblade, will be disappointed. Honda has left it with a careful update and modifies the entry and outlet channels, which gives the engine a performance increase by 3 to 133 kW / 181 hp. A traction control still does not have the new yet, since the throttle valves continue to be controlled conventionally via a gas cable. For the first time, there is a fireblade optimized for the racetrack with the addition SP. It comes with suspension components of the spring specialist Ohlins, Brembo pliers and a driving weight of 210 kilos. Without SP costs the Fireblade 15 200 Euro, with 18 290 euros.

The cruiser CTX 1300 DX cruiser CTX 1300 DX with half-shell cover, suitcase system and V4 engine. The engine with 1.261 Cubic centimeters displacement makes 62 kW / 84 hp at 6 000 tours. Equipment includes ABS, traction control and a stereo with two speakers and Bluetooth communication system. The price is 17,200 euros.
