The Dakar 2019 will take place from 6th to 17th. January again in South America. However, the 41st edition will no longer run through several countries, but will be held exclusively in Peru over ten stages.
70 percent desert
Start and finish are in Lima, the capital of the South American country. The entire country is driven in a loop. The total length of the route is 5,000 kilometers, 3,000 of which are a special test and 2,000 are connecting stages. As in this year, the route will lead through Lima, Arequipa and Puno, among others. Around 70 percent of the tour should lead through desert and dunes in the coming year, which is also a novelty in the history of the rally.
Second chance for dropouts
At the start of the 41st edition of the Dakar, 534 participants will stand in 334 vehicles, 135 of which will fight for the title of rookie of the year in 97 vehicles. Overall, the dakar remains a male domain. In 2019 there are only 17 women at dakar.
For the first time, participants who have left the competition are given a second chance. They can continue in a parallel competition the day after they are eliminated. They can be recognized by their orange labels and are not allowed to start on one of the first 25 places.

2019 will only be driven in Peru.
Peru was already one of the host countries for the Dakar Rally in 2012, 2013 and 2018, together with South American countries such as Argentina and Bolivia.
The Dakar rally was held for the first time in 1979. At that time the route led from Paris to Dakar. Until 2007 the rally was mainly held on the African continent. Due to terror warnings in the following year 2008, the decision was quickly made to cancel the rally and then held it on the South American continent from 2009.
