Aprilia MotoGP rider Andrea Iannone failed with his appointment in the doping process. The International Sports Court banned him for four years.

In the appeal process for the doping allegation against MotoGP rider Andrea Iannone, the CAS International Court of Justice passed its judgment on Tuesday (November 10, 2020). The judges did not want to follow the defense that that “doping”-Means came from the consumption of contaminated meat, and have imposed the maximum penalty. The Italian’s suspension was extended to four years. The court followed the demands of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Probably the end of my career

The 31-year-old Italian has been banned by the FIM motorcycle association since December 17, 2019 because the banned substance drostanolone, an anabolic steroid, was detected in his urine sample from the Sepang GP on November 3, 2019. The ban now issued by the CAS applies retrospectively and prohibits Andrea Iannone from participating in all racing events of the FIM motorcycle world association. In addition, all competition results that he achieved from November 1, 2019 until the start of the suspension will be withdrawn retrospectively.

Andrea Iannone’s racing career should thus be over. With the now pronounced lock should Aprilia soon to arrange the successor for Iannone in his MotoGP factory team. In the 2020 MotoGP season he was replaced by Bradley Smith and most recently Lorenzo Savadori.
