The Aprilia Mana “automatic motorcycle” was versatile and practical right from the start. Now the half-covered GT version underlines the touring suitability of the V2 machine.
It is drizzling around the Alpine peaks, and the cold creeps over the heights. So what? The half-disguised Aprilia Mana GT is still fun. It combines a comfortable sitting posture, upright and raised, with proper wind protection. The half-shell with the height-adjustable pane shields the rider’s torso well. Gran Tourismo. The standard ABS of the GT underlines the feeling of security even on wet roads. You can rely on the radial four-piston calipers, the pressure point is okay.
Funny: the drive concept of the nominally 76 hp 850 series. Your 90-degree V2, borrowed from the scooter area, inherited the power transmission via variator at the same time. Coupling does not work, the left end of the well-shaped handlebar looks orphaned. But it has something, this new comfort. Simply accelerate, the rest is done by the automatic system. There is a choice of three automatic modes, the standard tour mode almost always fits perfectly. In rain mode, the performance drops. In the sport level, the speed level, vibrations and engine braking torque are significantly higher downhill. And if you want, you can change gear: seven sequential gear ratios can be engaged by left hand (Tiptronic) or conventionally by foot shift. Both go with lightning speed and without jerks. Because the Vario-matic always keeps the speed at a medium level, things really move forward quickly. A (undisguised) Mana only takes three seconds from 60 to 100 km / h, with the GT it’s hardly going to be worse. Fortunately, all that’s missing is a clean, low-maintenance toothed belt.
The tubular space frame, which clamps the V2 supporting, remained unchanged compared to the standard Mana. The non-adjustable 43 mm upside-down fork has been re-tuned to cope with the extra weight. Also new on the GT: The preload of the directly linked central spring strut can be adjusted with a hydraulic handwheel. This means that the rear can be adapted to the passenger and load in no time. It lies well, the GT, springs comfortably, cushions without swinging. Everything fits for tourist to brisk driving style. The weight of 230 kilograms seems optimistic, as much as a bare mana without ABS weighed in the MOTORRAD test. Clever: The 16-liter tank in the rear allows a practical storage compartment under the dummy tank. Valuable: All levers are adjustable, the two foot levers even eccentric. There is only one catch left with the GT: At a price of 10,499 euros there is also a Honda CBF 1000 “Travel”, including ABS, main stand, heated grips, suitcases and top case. And the sturdy, spacious cases of the Mana GT, including the holder, cost 716 euros extra. This makes it difficult to convince potential customers of the true value of the 850 fully-fledged tourer.
