BMW R 1200 RT 2013

We thought the 1200 RT was perfectly accomplished, so much its success and its performances transported it with superb on the roads of France, Europe and Navars. In Bavaria, we don’t think so, and time has not been used to make the blue and white propeller logo shine; it was mainly used to develop more technology and thus improve the GT plus of the R series.

Subtle but nonetheless present, the 2010 restyling was much more reserved than that carried out in the 1150 -> 1200 evolution. The most revamped element is the air intake located under the muzzle. Different fairing elements are more timidly revised, and only a refined comparison with the old model can distinguish the new contours. Behème’s main motivation is not aesthetics, although a visually refined silhouette is a leitmotif, but effective – the RT should still polish the protection it offers its crew..
On board, the differences are not obvious either, but sufficient to say: “Hey, something has changed….”. The instrument cluster received a redesigned dial, topped by an anti-glare visor. Headlight adjustment is now done via a button on the left in the cockpit, which is more comfortable than the previous adjustment lever. Among the anthology of controls that can be found on the handlebars (now mounted on silentblocs), the turn signal control is in turn in tune with the Japanese standard. The new K 1300 series started the movement; this is gradually being extended to all BM production.

Ah, I hear yoke and technique enthusiasts talking. Have we heard of a genetic transplant from HP2 Sport?!? Bingo. And it’s in the cylinder heads that it happens. There are now 2 overhead camshafts controlling 4 radially arranged valves. The diameters through which the gases pass are all revised upwards: + 3 mm for the intake valves, + 2 mm for the exhaust ones, + 3 mm for the throttle bodies. There is no change in the internal dimensions of the flatbed twin – same displacement, stroke and bore identical, but combustion chambers and pistons are changed. It must be said that the Boxer takes more turns with its new configuration: 500 rpm additional to block at 8,500 rpm max. Its power is identical, 110 horses, obtained 250 revs later; It is mainly the couple who benefit from the operation, with half a kilogram of gain. Result: a smoother curve, more punch in the connecting rods, and an adjustable and “vigorous” exhaust sound thanks to a motorized valve…. Like many manufacturers, BMW has split off an Exup. The pot takes the opportunity to change its internal structure without modifying its external shape. A little trick to recognize the new Boxer 1200 with 2 ACT: its cylinder head covers are held by 2 screws instead of 4.

The technical solutions of the chassis have been proven for many years. The recipe remains sovereign with a Telelever fork, a single-sided paralever with cardan transmission, 320 mm brakes with 4-piston calipers coupled with ABS…. Nothing new, except on the side of the suspensions. By drawing on the list of options (which has grown even further – Redoute power catalog….), The R 1200 RT can be fitted with the ESA 2 – the 2nd generation electronically adjustable suspension. With the click of a button, you can adjust the damping preload; ESA 2 adds the spring stiffness adjustment.

The last evolution made it possible to add little extras, the added value of which tends from design to functional, personality obliges. Redesigned fluid jars, audio system with a controllable interface for USB / MP3 and iPod connection controlled by multi-controller (the CD player is fired), revised front fender and belly pan, reinforced screen support, and some options and accessories spanning 3 pages.

BMW R 1200 RT

The adoption of the double ACT allows the BMW R 1200 RT to get a facelift and await the new Liquid Boxer with more technology, comfort, punch and roadworthiness. No revolution, just enough to stay in her place, that is to say one of the queens of the road, unbeatable in the top 10 of the French market.
