For fans of the sporty line, Pirelli is launching the new Diablo Rosso IV. With a new carcass, large dimensions and new compounds. PS has already tested it in Sicily.

This piste is not like a smooth children’s bottom, but a mediocre country road with violent waves in the braking zones: the 2.5 km long Autodromo Valle dei Templi in Sicily. This has Pirelli selected for the launch of the new Diablo Rosso IV road sports tire. The fourth red tire devil is not just the successor to the Rosso III, but a completely redesigned one.

The new Rosso in detail

Has orientated itself Pirelli doing the construction of the Supercorsa SP, which was once specially designed for Ducatis Superleggera V4 was baked. The front Rosso IV, for example, has two different mixtures. The harder one extends up to about 35 degrees of incline. The softer one extends to the edge, which also no longer has any profile grooves. Overall, Pirelli has increased the positive profile of the front Rosso IV by 20 percent. The rear tires also have different rubber compounds. The dimensions up to 190/50 also have a soft zone on the edge and a more resilient mixture in the middle, for sizes from 190/55 there are even three different mixtures. What all tires have in common is the construction with a zero-degree steel belt – supplemented by artificial rayon fibers for more stability, while the tires from size 190/55 also have a three-layer lyocel fiber made of cellulose to minimize tire deformation. So much for theory.

Driving behavior

The Pirelli particularly likes its crisp turning behavior on the slopes. Even when anchoring deep into the bends, it delivers the best feedback and does not let the bumps bother you. He spices this behavior with great handiness, which is why with Ducati Streetfighter V4 and BMW S 1000 RR every vertex sits. When firing out of the corners, the Rosso IV offers a lot of grip, the 200 HP grenades stay clean on the track. In addition, the rear tire shows a top wear pattern after a few turns despite a fresh twelve degrees outside temperature.

opinion poll

What brand of tires do you drive?

Voted in 1930 times

Pirelli, what else.

Metzeler, of course.

Always Michelin.

Conti, that fits.

Dunlop, are the best

Avon, they’re good.

Bridgestone, it couldn’t be better.

Vredestein, something new.

Maxxis, they are great.

Kenda, great off-road skins

Heidenau, they take me everywhere

Mitas, they convince me.

Conclusion

Even if the performance of the new Rosso IV can only be finally assessed by comparing tires, the first impression was already powerful. This tire could develop into a hot recommendation for sporty, inclined country road fans who now and then want to add just-for-fun laps on the race track to their personal two-wheeler pleasure.
