The S2R is a happy surprise. It takes the very successful line and some elements of the S4R to seduce the biker charmed by the ultimate Monster but put off by its cosmic price. It is true that this bitch equipped with the twin 996 costs practically the price of a GSX-R 1000. But there is a story behind the birth of this machine….
In fact, it replaces the 800 Monster. This roadster was the family’s unloved. The aura of her sisters (620 and 1000) overshadowed her and the public shunned her. However, more powerful than the 620, almost as efficient as the 900 and cheaper than the 1000, inheriting the same hellish face, it represented the best compromise. No one saw it, but the 800 was actually a chrysalis biding its time to wake up. In 2005 will be born the butterfly that slept in her.
Welcome to S2R. It takes from the mid-monster the frame, engine and fork. But its dazzling wings are the charm of its big sister: the single-sided arm, the rim attached to it, the 2 raised side escapes, the small colored band that crosses the motorcycle lengthwise, the nose screen. These are the attributes of its elder. The reward: it is magnificent. Let’s not forget the Magura handlebars and the footrests of the S4R plus the APTC system fitted to the 620. Thanks to it, the clutch is much more friendly.
What does S2R lack to be successful? Nothing. She has name, charm, wit and character. So, big success in sight ?
Mhhhggnnniiieuuu … That was the effort to engage on the old Ducat ‘. The Italians were asking for a grip. But with the new version of the APTC system which softens the clutch control, you no longer need to have 50 kg of pressure in the left hand. You can go into the bends hard and hold the brakes there, then throw the bike onto the corner. The S2R can also take even more than the 800.
More attractive plastic, exciting engine, quality braking and clutch, Italian freshness, the new Monster S2R does not disappoint. She takes care of her line and leaves the big watts to others. It’s up to you to see what appeals to you the most.
