Ducati Multistrada 1260
The Ducati Multistrada 1260 arrives?
Plus displacement for the all-rounder
Ducati apparently wants to replace the Multistrada 1200 with a 1260 in the coming year. This is evident from documents filed with the California Air Resources Board.

These documents also indicate that the 2018 Ducati range will include a base Multistrada 1260, a Multistrada 1260 S and a Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak.
All three variants will use a 1262 cm³ V2 instead of the current 1198 with variable valve control. the Ducati XDiavel is already equipped with such a long-stroke 1262 V2. It would have to deal with the devil if he does not become the basis for the 1260 Multistrada. It gets its displacement increase from 3.6 mm more stroke (71.5 instead of 67.9 mm); the bore is 106 mm in each case.
In the XDiavel, the engine is trimmed for more torque at low speeds. Its peak performance is identical to that of the Multistrada 1200. Its maximum torque is slightly lower at 126 Nm, but is already available at 5000 rpm; that the Multistrada 1200 only at 7500 rpm.
The documents also indicate that the Multistrada 1260 engine is apparently not completely identical to that of the XDiavel. It emits more carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons, which suggests that it burns more fuel, i.e. is more optimized for peak performance.
The increase in displacement could bring the Multistrada 1260 to 160 PS and 135 Nm, the power delivery should correspond to that of the current model.
Aside from the engine, the documents reveal a lot about the new Multistrada vintage: The 1260s will lose around 10 kilograms, which leads to hopes for a dry weight of 200 kg or even less.
The S version will probably be equipped with the semi-active Skyhook chassis, the Pikes Peak version with the full Ohlins regalia.
Whether and when the Multistrada Enduro will also benefit from the 1260 engine is still open to speculation.
