Goodbye ST2. The one that paved the way for Ducati in sport tourism gives way to this new ST3. Three for three valves per cylinder. The engineers took over the 1000 DS, which equips, among others, the Multistrada and the Monster 1000, to graft a cylinder head with 2 valves at the intake and one at the exhaust. The ST3’s engine also gains liquid cooling. The power climbs to more than 100 hp (20 more than the ST2) to the detriment of the couple which drops 1 mkg. Stylically, only the design of the fork crown evolves, and that is enough to give a new personality to the machine. This to the great benefit of protection, which was the main weak point of TK. The new dashboard, very classy, offers a wealth of information, and the lighting automatically adapts according to the exterior brightness. In terms of practicality, let us also mention the clever system for adjusting the height of the exhausts; low position for the installation of the suitcases – high position to gain ground clearance when you decide to exploit the sporting potential of the machine. The elements of the handlebars are also adjustable, ergonomics taking an increasingly important part at Ducati, eager to conquer new markets. After the surpriseNantes Multistrada, the ST3 announces its share of good surprises.
The ST3 has certainly refined its claims of road, but it does not betray its genes. The seat has gained in comfort thanks to a thicker saddle; nevertheless, its consequent height will hardly enchant when it comes to setting foot. The mea- sured turning radius and the mixed flexibility of the twin do not really encourage people to indulge in the city. Add to that a manly clutch and you will quickly have to take the national road to taste the real virtues of the new Bolognese road.
the The new fork crown may no longer have the typical Italian charm of the ST2, but it now effectively protects the rider up to 150 km / h. The 3-valve twin breathes quietly, is sober and polished, with a hint of vibrations – we are far from the SS which unbolt you the fairing. Powerful, it gives the ST3 wings, rewarding every grip twist with a vigorous thrust. After fine-tuning your driving position, you are delighted with the road and the suspensions; although identical to the previous model, the components carry the motorcycle better, promoting a more skillful and safer ride. Like good wine, the ST family gets better over time. It doesn’t have the smoothness of a BM but a lot more passion to offer.
