The new Ducati roadster…. No, the new Bologna monster. The surprising 1098 Streetfighter. And then came the shock. It’s bestial, it’s furious, it smells like gunpowder. What a face !
Menacingly confident, the new Streetfighter is a very nice exercise for the wicked roadster, sweating power everywhere, dressed in a design as muscular as it is edgy.. And in terms of performance and sensations, we will not be disappointed. Ducati took the 1098, tweaked the straps to fit a handlebar, and swapped the fairing for minimal trim, a tiny, but distinguished fork crown – note the little sidelights that take over the look of the 1098, in a very robot style Terminator…. and a little Japanese in some aspects. – Add a barely redesigned 1098 bottom, 2 side exhausts (like on the S2R and S4R) in a very warlike format, and you have the bestial Ducati roadster, and even one of the most furious of the moment. Because you have all the superbike gear on it: hypersport trellis frame, the 1098 engine boosted to 155 hp (only 5 less than on the sports car), 11.7 mkg of torque, the same single-sided (but lengthened) , which increases the wheelbase and gives the Streetfighter its own geometry) with a superb Marchesini rim, the inverted fork terminated by one-piece Brembo radial calipers flying over 330 mm diameter discs…. He’s not really a street-fighter anymore, but more of a street-racing-fighter. The scariest part is that the machine does not exceed the 170 kg mark. Such a weight / power ratio on a roadster, it commands respect !
New replacement of the Monster S4 series, the 1098 Streetfighter will be offered in standard version, and in S version with Ohlins suspensions. Price wise, the Streetfighter is far from cheap. Exclusive, it also announces a price higher than most of the current 1000 hypersports. But its equipment and fighting terrain is not really the same as that of the Z 1000, Speed Triple, CB 1000 R and FZ1. In the near future, nothing prevents Ducati from offering an 848 version, as the sporting siblings are technically close.
