Ducati 796 MONSTER 2014

The 796 Monster made its last laps in 2014. This marks the end of the legendary motorized roadsters with the air desmo. Tomorrow, they will all be powered by float tiwns. There was a time when the Monster family was so rowdy that there was something for every taste and every reason: 695, 800 S2R, 1000 S2R, S4R, S4Rs…. But the new generations dispersed those who wanted to emancipate themselves. The Desmoquattro clan left to live in Streetfighters, and the new Monster series had only 2 members: the 696 and the 1100. Between his two sisters, one sparkling and the other more demanding, there was naturally a lack of an environment. range. Never mind ! With the release of the first Hypermotard 796, Ducati had on hand a new twin that could perfectly move an intermediate roadster. Welcome to 796 MONSTER.

Hi you…. ! Giiffllll… ..! Sorry ; Good day Mrs. We don’t approach the 796 like a common hen. The Ducat has poise and charisma. With its single-sided and high exhausts which fully release the rear wheel, its inverted 43 mm fork, its Brembo radial calipers and its bright red frame, it perfectly mimics the ex 1100. You see it, you don’t touch it like that.

To have the face of the 1100 is to charm you. Being more accommodating and giving yourself more than the 696 is to conquer you. The 796 Monster is more urban than it looks. Its seat height of 800 mm is 10 mm lower than that of the 1100. Without touching the line, Ducati has refined the ergonomics by modifying the saddle slightly and raising the handlebars by 20 mm. Question temperament, by installing the new Desmodue of 803 cm3 (like what, the names are misleading), the firm of Bologna offers the happy medium to the 796. Retouched to offer more watts than in the HM, the twin leaves 87 horses and a good mkg more than the little monster; all available at a significantly lower speed. More displacement, more filling, more availability, few people complain. However, the mid-range Monster series, ofering an excellent compromise between big and small, has never been very successful. This gives more resources to captivate the market. And it works: the 796 is the best-selling Monster in France.

ABS is available as an option for a few hundred euros more. And in terms of colors, Ducati goes off the beaten track by pushing its Monster ART concept further. In addition to the red, black, and white colors, the 796 Monster offers a large palette called Monster ART Logomania. The principle: dresses decorated in a “Memorial” style, with select references to Ducati’s past glories. You have the choice for example of a gray and blue reminiscent of the Sport 100 of the 50s, a red and white inspired by the 250 Mach 1 of the 60s, the green and red of Mike Hailwood’s 900 SS at the Tourist Trophy, etc. …. and for those favoring the Ducati Corse, there is also a red, white and black decoration, like the fire limited series 1198 s and R Corse Edition.
