In March, a Harley-Davidson LiveWire and a Tesla Model 3 competed in a drag race in Texas. It looks like the electric Harley won.

The location was the Motorplex in Ennis, in the state of Texas in the USA. Ennis is about 40 miles south of Dallas, and the Motorplex is a quarter mile facility that is typically used for drag racing. The racetrack is characterized quite simply by two parallel, long straights. The first vehicle to complete the quarter mile wins.

The video excerpt, which was filmed from a spectator stand, shows that the electric Harley is moving much more quickly, but whether it was an early start and how well the Tesla caught up at the end of the race can only be guessed at and be speculated.

The fact is: one Harley-Davidson LiveWire rolls to the start with 105 hp and just applies 114 Nm of torque, which propels 249 kilograms forward. The battery has a capacity of 15.5 kilowatt hours. For the Model 3 in the “Standard Plus”-Execution specifies Tesla 5.6 seconds for the sprint from zero to 100 km / h. The electric car weighs just over 1,600 kilograms, which is set in motion by 321 hp and 402 Nm of torque.

Range and top speed

In terms of range, the Harley-Davidson LiveWire offers a good 160 kilometers, the Tesla according to the manufacturer around 530 kilometers (WLTP). But since it was a distance of over a quarter of a mile, i.e. the equivalent of 402 meters, that didn’t help the Tesla in this competition. From a distance, however, it can be seen that the lower maximum speed of the Harley, which is sealed off at 177 km / h, is inferior to that of the Tesla – 209 km / h top speed. The video excerpt suggests that Model 3 would have had the Harley within a few meters.
