Electric bikes on a zero basis

The Italian manufacturer E-Racer Motorcycles has put two stylish electric models on wheels based on Zero motorcycles: E-Racer Edge & E-Racer Rugged.

Modern technology meets classic design: This could have been the motto for the development of the E-Racer Edge from E-Racer Motorcycles. The Italian manufacturer uses the Zero SR / F. However, a lot is no longer recognizable from the Zero.

Cafe Racer with an aggressive look

The Italians have conjured up a classic looking Cafe Racer with some modern components out of the naked bike. The cladding can be simply put on the base zero without much effort. The “tank” in which the battery is located, and the bike itself, appear much more powerful and aggressive compared to the basic Zero. At the front, E-Racer Motorcycles donated the Edge a relatively small LED headlight. The bench was designed in-house. Also included are new brake components, new spring elements and a superbike handlebar from LSL. For safety reasons, E-Racer Motorcycles has developed a special sound system, whereby the Edge should be clearly audible.

The E-Racer Edge is based on the Zero SR / F.

The engine still delivers 110 hp and should therefore enable a top speed of up to 200 km / h. The range should be up to 259 kilometers, at least when the bike is moved at a rather leisurely pace. The battery should be able to be charged to 95 percent within an hour. According to the manufacturer, all components that do not come from Zero or from the accessories range were made in Germany and are homologated. The Italians charge 6,000 euros for the conversion. In addition, however, at least the 20,700 euros that are required to purchase the base zero are due. The first five pre-ordered vehicles are to be delivered in spring 2020.

Electric bike for military use

The second bike from E-Racer Motorcycles was originally presented at EICMA 2018, albeit as a prototype at the time. The E-Racer Rugged is also based on a Zero. Unlike the Edge presented above, there is a Zero FXS Special under the Rugged. On closer inspection, in addition to the overall appearance, the rugged’s silver aluminum frame with a few holes should stand out. According to the manufacturer, this is a kind of safety feature for transporting the motorcycle on pick-ups or ships. In addition, the Italian manufacturer has given the bike LED lighting elements and a USB port located under the seat. The Zero engine has an output of 46 hp. At the maximum speed, the manufacturer gives 137 km / h. It should be possible to fully recharge the battery in less than two hours. The manufacturer specifies a weight of 136 kilograms.

The Rugged was already presented at EICMA 2018, but at the time it was still a prototype.

In general, E-Racer Motorcycles focused on robustness when developing the Rugged. The “special” version of the original Zero is mainly used by the military. The Rugged will also find its main use in this area. Accordingly, an extremely resistant paint called Line X is used, which was also used in part for the Edge presented above. Another parallel to the Edge is the price: the Rugged should also cost 6,000 euros. For the basic bike, in the standard and not “military” version, an additional minimum of 12,790 euros must be invested. The sound system described above is also used. Here, too, the first five models are to be delivered in spring 2020.

Conclusion

The two electric models from E-Racer Motorcycles are primarily eye-catching because of their spectacular looks. Often you will probably not see the E-Racer Edge and E-Racer Rugged in the wild. It’s a shame actually …
